Those people are nostalgia sickos. 20+ episode season drag on too much. If it isnt the filler episodes that most of the time are boring its the networks dragging it out that it kills viewers interest and thats why ratings drop. Thats why Streaming Platforms took over people got fed up waiting nearly 40 weeks to complete a 22-25 episode season run.

12-16 episode season runtime from 42-60 mins per ep is more than enough time to world build.
I agree. Every season of X-Files and Lost and old 24 episode season shows like that have at least 4-6 episodes that could go, and everything would be fine. I think 12 is cutting it a little bit short though in a show that wanst to have both mythology and stand alone 'monster of the week' episodes.

The show I keep thinking about when this reboot comes up is Fringe.

The first 4 seasons had 20-23 episodes. First season was mostly monster of the week, it really picked up season 2 as they started to focus on the mythology behind it.

But there were definitely episodes where they could've gone :camby: and nothing would have missed.
