I know I'm :old:

Gospel music & southern soul music is 70% of my music consumption now mixed with R&B , mainly 90s & early 2000s.

I'm at a point where I don't even wanna hear profanity in my music PERIOD (especially the Nword), let alone lyrics about killing and doing drivebys.

I do like Benny the Butcher tho. He's an amazing lyricist. Even with Benny I can only listen to his music in small doses. It's just too negative sounding.

The lane is open for yall to make threads about the artists you want to talk about. Some of the posters in here but dont even have a single post in that Lil Baby album thread and he supposed to be one of the faces of hip hop

They’re probably just figuring out that he really ain’t it. He’s simply the “top” of the whiny underwater voice distortion using dudes. They lane is entirely flooded.

Number 1; the ageism argument is so silly because the nature of entertainment is to move new shyt in.

Nothing last forever.

Rakim, one of the greatest of all time...had a five year run;

Paid in Full (1987)
Follow the Leader (1988)
Let the Rhythm Hit 'Em (1990)
Don't Sweat the Technique (1992)

It was basically OVER after this

A genre built on fun, excitement, youth culture, naturally don't wanna hear about 401K's and retirement benefits

The CULTURE WILL DIE, if we refuse to embrace newer artists

Biggie wasn't rapping like Kool Mo D and gave us classics

Kendrick isn't rapping like LL Cool J and giving us classics

Number 2; ya'll swear, like a lot of outsiders, that Hip-Hop is 100% bang, bang shot em up

That's the point of this thread, post some newer ppl not on that
The bolded statement is exactly why I said this is only a problem if someone who prefers to listen to "older artist" refuses to even give a newer artist a chance and is straight up hating on the new generation. Now if they do at least embrace them and understand the rap game is built on generations but prefer not to listen to the material, I think you would be in the wrong for faulting them. I cant speak on others but there is a lot of new guys out there that are good, but i also understand everyone just wont get it.

Its not about rapping/sounding like the previous guy. Some of these nikkas are simply just not good at all. I listen to drill personally but I can tell you a lot of it is straight up bullshyt. There are specific artists who are more talented (bizzy banks, leeky g, sleepy hallow, sheff g) but most of these other nikkas have no business being around a mic. The reason I even mentioned drill is because that is the current sound/trend of the genre. Everyone currently (shyt even drake) has been on a drill point at this time. It's the sound of this generation just like the early 90s, early 2000s, mid 2000s, 2010s all have a specific sound you can pin point.

How is the agesim point silly when in your thread title you are literally upset at people listening to artists 10 years in the game? :dead: I should just delete everything from jay-z now right? We have H-D now no need for Hov right? Its very valid because you could listen to a newer generation of artist (take griselda for example) who have used production similar to that 90s era and the first thing some nikkas say on here is "im not listening to no dusty beats" :what: . Thats another thread in itself

And out of curiosity what new artists do you listen to that is not a drill rapper that we should follow?

Someone said Denzel curry a dope new nikka

Curry been around damn near forever :gucci:

All the old heads in my family been listening to the same artist and decade for years now

Think it’s just an age thing and it’s caught up with the coli since a lot of posters are old as hell.

I keep my ears open on a lot of music— not just rap. There’s good content out there that anybody can find and like personally some people just stuck in their ways.

Like I said I like a lot of music but most of it wouldn’t matter to the audience we have here.

These "demons" spreading this demon shyt are direct descendants of 50 Cent, imo...you notice most of them say he is their favorite/role model?
:ohhh:I been telling nikkas this for a while now and Eminem popped off the opioid/pills usage... Both used by these labels to destroy/destabilize Hip-hop and lower income communities white and black... The biggest selling rappers of the century :snoop:

I been on thecoli/SOHH since 2007--15 years, b.

I was in college and I used to get new music from new artists on SOHH, the blog era, MySpace.

Pac Div, Cool Kids, Curren$y, that first Kid Cudi tape was amazing, I remember the first time learning about Jay Electronica, etc., etc.

Now, all ya'll do is cry about "violence in music" ("RAP IS CRAP") or it's the same artists being posted...I'm tried of it

The First page; Kendrick, Drake, Nas, Kanye's fukkery, Juelz' Vlad interview, fukking Puff Daddy's new "song" has like three threads

The Booth has been the worst forum outta the Big 6 for years now

:mindblown:

Didn't we open registration? Where's all the new lil nikkas?

No, I'm not trying to listen to drill rap, but, I'm sure there's plenty of young guys making records, but, we can't find them
take your ass to reddit and stop cryin...

Thanks for making the point. Posters here who tend to be fans of older artists actually participate in those threads - why is that a critique, people like what they like. If the newer shyt is what you are into or want to discuss, all you have to do is create the threads and people who are interested will participate too. I can't count how many times I've come to this sub-forum and either had no idea who any of the stickied threads were about or had no interest in the artists, but it doesn't stop anyone who is into that to discuss.

I have no problem with listening to newer/younger artists if they're dope. The notion that it's something wrong with ME because I don't like "LIL Baby" or rappers of his ilk just to keep apperances of being current is some sucka shyt.

!!!

I'm not listening to garbage just to fake being "cool" to a bunch of moist characters. They can go to their label handlers and tell them go back to the drawing board.

FOH.

while this is true i feel like its harder to find new music online now period. you only got tik tok and streaming playlists to put you on these days, and all that way more industry planted out than blogs back in the day
