how many pure consensus classics are there in the history of hip hop? 4? 5?
a rough estimate?
i'd say about 30-40.
with about 30-40 more that are lightly disputed.

TM 101 is the definition of a classic in THE CULTURE. I can see your point if youre arguing against critical favorites like The Cool and Blus album being classics when they didnt have the cultural impact, but those type of albums do exist
only classics for these last 3 years = mbdtf & gkmc, maybe LIG
classics for 2003-2010: the documentary, be, food and liquor and TM101
forgot that jeezy album damn
NWTS is as classic as an album can be in this generation
And album every one is playing outside in they whips, on they phones, album everyone is talkin bout
And is the album with the most longevity
stop acting like everyone isn't on the internet in 2013
ol using windows 95 ass
go outside youre a joke
doesn't matter. Hip hop fans have pissed on the word "classic" much it doesn't even have the same meaning anymore. Classic is just a code word now for "album I really like"
using your criteria though, you'll never find a classic album again because you'll never wanna acknowledge it. You'll never be able to fathom that someone today can make an album as good or better than the stuff you grew up on. It's OK. It happens to everyone. It just means you're getting old.
can't dap this enough....people throw this word around like nothing nowadays...declaring something classic 2 days after it drops when part of the meaning of the word is something that's able to stand up to the test of time...
link to avy asapI disagree, people have always called things classic right after they came out.
This happens for movies,Albums, games, sporting events etc
Yea even though I disagree with the albums you named this isn't 1999, everyone is online.
The "Only on the Internet" argument doesn't apply anymore

The word classic is obsolete, shyt doesn't even exist anymore at this point, it's no need in debating or getting mad, the shyt doesn't mean what it used to mean, literally and figuratively so why even trip I figure.
This is exactly what I mean when I say that it's over for that word
Something that has been out for weeks now some how has the most longevity, these nikkas aren't fans, their campaign managers.
:
Good postyou don't decide if an album is a classic or not.
the culture is what gives the classic status to an album and a lot of them have been in the classic debates. The culture changes, for better or for worse, so let's stop with the "it's not respectful for the history"
Just to name a few:
The Documentary
College Dropout
Food and Liquor
Below The Heavens
Good Kid mAAd City
Be
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
The Cool
Cuban Linx 2
...
no one cares if you agree or not, what is "considered" as classic will be classic, they represent a generation, point blank.
