Op I feel your pain, but if The Wire taught me one thing its that big city police forces are self licking ice cream cones who serve only to siphon resources from the tax payers.

Now on the flip side, I get your frustration. The Do Nothing Dems have allowed extremists to be the loudest voices of criminal justice reform. The intersectional feminists have hijacked the Defund the Police/Abolitionist platform.

As is tradition, they destroy any progress with the movement by injecting soft language ("we need to offer more EMPATHY to our BiPOC sisters and brothers who are trapped in the criminal justice system (despite being violent criminals)" ) and/or 301 level jargon into what should be a simple argument:

Is our legal system producing felons with low recidivism? No.
Are there currently mechanisms to keep people in poorer communities away from crime? No
Soultion: We need to increase programs that improve rehabilitation. We need to target these problematic zip codes with community policing and school to work programs.

Thats it. That simple.

Selling it how the Intersectional Feminists try to sell it is the fastest way to radicalize middle class citizens towards conservatism.

First off sorry this happened to you and I'm glad you and your grandma are ok. Crime has exploded since the lockdowns. People are down bad economically and others act like they've lost all common social sense. While I don't think "more funding" is the answer one thing is clear: a majority of black people do not support "defunding" the police and they want more police. That's just a fact. So what's the problem, and what's the solution? I think it's clear that most cities police budgets are not only bloated but they aren't managed well, resource wise. OR they are managed well for some people (well off tax payers) and aren't managed well for other people (poor people, minorities). I've seen people say we need more community policing. I generally agree but that means you need those police resources properly sent to areas like the projects. Do cops even walk beats anymore? You certainly see them walking around parts of downtown in any city, but what about the projects? I doubt it.

Bail reforms are another issue. Do I think there should be bail for simple drug possession? No. But there sure as shyt should be (high) bails for any type of violent crime. This is something that's in the hands of voters, they'll have to make that decision when they select DAs.

“Defund the police” doesn’t actually mean people want the police abolished. OP what you actually need is to do their job because they’re very well funded. Frankly, police rarely prevent crime more so they respond to it.

As a side note, this also proves yet again that if you have to explain a slogan it sucks and isn’t politically viable.
