There’s currently 6 players averaging over 30 ppg. What does it even mean at this point?

I was gonna ask if it’s really that unusual but then I looked at regular season stats going back to 01-02 and the most players to avg 30 or higher during a season was 3…it happened in 2019-20 (5 players almost did it…only 3 actually did tho) and 2005-06

Detroit You bytch Ass nikka
There was a season YEARS ago when teams barely averaged 100ppg that had 4-5 nikkas over 30. Kobe, Bron, AI, Tmac, Gilbert, Wade at 27ppg, Melo at 26ppg. I think that was 2007, and Wade averaged 29ppg before he separated his shoulder that year.

Watch high school or college basketball then!

He’s not a basketball fan. He only cares this season because Alabama could win the title.

If they had an NBA team that could win the title and played in whatever village in Alabama he is from, he would be a full throated NBA fan, for this season.

Sacramento leads the NBA in scoring but they give up the third most points in the western conference. Averaging 30 use to mean something. Now it don’t mean a damn thing. A sloth is averaging a triple double and it don’t mean shyt.

It’s really hard to gauge who’s good and who isn’t at this point. Are players really that nice? Have the rules warped the league or do players simply don’t care about defense? Maybe it’s simply the pace of play :manny:

And for all the MVP debate, Giannis should be and is the MVP of the NBA. :mjpls:
Offensive players and systems are so good that defensive schemes simply haven’t caught up yet. Put this group of offensive players in any other era and they’re putting up the same numbers and having defenses look like they’re nonexistent as well.

So rather than trying to understand that this season needs to be viewed with a new context, you are choosing to hold onto an older context and not understand what it means that 6 players are averaging more than 30 points per game this season.

I wonder if you can see why this is a problem.
What does this mean tho

The ‘context’ is that for 60,70 years the leaders in ppg have been remarkably consistent. You can pull up a random season from 1965, 1985, 2005….the top scorers is gonna look the same

So to just say ‘the game is changing’ isn’t accurate. The game has changed multiple times yet ppg leaders has been consistent. 6 dudes averaging 30 is a historic anomaly that points to an issue. They need to fix some shyt or start teaching better at the HS Level. These nggas do no play defense. You got kids 2 years removed from drivers Ed dropping 30. The game is skewing more like AAU which is ‘ok ima let you get yours now ok let me get mine’

How many players “should” average 30 PPG?

The correct answer is: there is no answer. It doesn’t matter. It’s going to fluctuate. From year to year. And sometimes there will be anomalies. A word you rightly put to the year. It doesn’t (yet) reflect any trend whatsoever. So why overreact to it?

If 5 years from now 20 players average 30 PPG what will that mean? All it’s going to mean is that the context of what the elite players score is going to change from 30pts to whatever the new number is.

You apply a new context and move accordingly.

This is like the cliche nba Stan answer on this site site

Y’all love to ignore how the nba has made it impossible to play defense

Freedom of movement rules
Allowing all kinds of traveling and carrying
No defense 3 seconds
Rewarding offense players for initiating contact

EDIT: damn near forgot moving screens!

There's no issue. The best players are showing out.

Shooting 10/20 every night
Making 8 plus free throws a night. At a high 80s clip
Hitting 2-5 threes a night.

nikkas just nice at ball :manny:
