Still is top 50 unfortunately.

Doubt it. You probably just don't live in a high crime area. While some parts of the city are definitely worse than others, I'm sure there are other parts where less than 10 people die per 100,000.
I live near Belair and Moravia. But I spend a lot of time in Cherry Hill and Park Heights. I keep protection but I've legit never had issues. I'll admit tho that the Heights is a war zone right now

I realized some time ago that the places that become the most notorious hoods are because of the city's overall influence on the media and not on the actual levels of crime and danger compared to other places.

Some of the grimiest spots in this country are places 60% of people probably couldn't even point out on a map

Exactly...Gary, Rockford n Harvey are little towns just inside, or in Rockfords case, outside Chicagoland and theyre both among the grimiest, murderous places in America.

Kingston isn't even within top 100 cities when you look at crime

The fact that there are two US cities on that list is kinda alarming TBh.

List seems kind of suspect without any Middle East countries on it. Those places probably have suspect reporting but still. No Northern Nigeria? No Libya? Like what's the criteria for a murder here. I'm assuming war zones are excluded but then certain parts of Mexico and Honduras are basically war zones minus the uniforms

Oh and my wife went to Fortaleza for business about 2 yrs ago. She was at the university so I assume it was some CAC area. She went to the open market and beach with no issues. Had no idea it was supposedly that bad :jbhmm:

They're basing it on homicides per 100,000 inhabitants.

Population has a lot to do with why a city like Chicago isn't on the list

It has a population 4x that of Baltimore and the "nicer" areas skewe the results

Bingo. I think Chicagos rate is something like 20 per 100,000 but I could be wrong.
