If you want cheaper rents or houses you have to be ok living 30-45 mins away from a major city, it is what it is.

My wife and I are going to sell our NJ home and moving to Savannah GA in the next 10 years.

If you can afford that type of rent money and up, you can put down to buy a house or invest in some ownership. Folks be paying 1200 and up in rent a year. At that rate, might as well. Last decade worth of rent for a lot of folks could have paid off for their home if they knew what they were doing because a lot of people dont. Doesn't have to be a big ass house because folks be all wanting to do it big with their first home knowing they will be selling that shyt for something else. Just owning property is a big deal. They cant kick you off your land when you own it unless they eminent domain your ass.

Plus there are lots of rundown houses that could be fixed up but instead the government hands it over to a property investment firm to tear down and build 1700 condos.
Mostly in shiity areas. There are some in nicer neighborhoods too, but alot of people aren't handy and they not trying to remodel a home to live in.

Brooklyn keeps on taking it.
Look at you coming in assuming people are ignorant. I’m aware of the reasons why things are the way they are genius . My gripe is with the current state and cost of housing overall. Including the DMV. Just because something is doesn’t mean it should be.

I never said you were ignorant. I literally answered your question. From a developer point of view they are going to keep building pricey homes and rentals as long as they have the tenants to do so. DC in particular is a city where attracting high earners is easy.

DC is another high cost of living city that needs to have the government intervene about the housing crisis. Developers aren’t going to do anything for regular people. It’s not in their interest.

I don’t agree with this 90 percent. I know a lot of people who left nyc and kept their salary. None of them were told to take a reduced salary.

if I left nyc, I would be keeping my salary

Well you should because salary for the most part is calculated by an areas cost of living. You can also go online and easily look up the average salary of a job compared from metro to metro. then you have the minimum wage differences.

The vast majority of people would get paid less if they moved to a significant lower cost of living state.

The best way to live like a king in the south which has been the number 1 way for decades is to retire from NY and then move down there.

For example I can tell you right now from experience that every finance job in Charlotte pays less than finance jobs in Chicago, NY and Jersey. It would be difficult to go down there and keep your salary.

Seems like rent going up in the south bc of this... especially those companies that have properties in multiple regions. Folks leaving the north for the south as well as the rental prices competing nationally instead of locally

People now want to Work From Home and not do long daily commutes anymore. Why live in a box during a pandemic, when you can go to your laptop and do work from your house and get an extra hour of sleep every night?

This is what comes with being hot. Welcome to the push out and gentrification.

This shyt is not sustainable. People just keep migrating chasing affordable living

People telling me to move to Mississippi ans Alabama, where some of the worse standard of living in a 1st world country, just cause of "cheap housing". That's KKK territory.

:mjlol: panicking because BLM is getting exposed

You know what's up... dude literally doesn't know which way to go.

I understand you want to get your jokes off about BLM but at least don’t make it so obvious and stay on topic, I’m certain there’s 100s of forums you can go to where people think like you why come here.

This is not always an option if you are black or another minority. Also where I live an hour outside the city the prices are up 40k plus. Not to mention their new builds are at a historic high and the can’t guarantee the property will appraise because the homes are now costing 40-80k more than they did a few months ago. No one is negotiating if the property doesn’t appraise, they are just going with back up offers. Me and my husband feel lost because moving further out would so solve our issue of finding homes/building a new home but we got kids and I’m not willing to move to trump country just to get a house.

builders using commodity issues like lumber and shyt to drive prices up which will set the new market rate for new builds even after lumber comes down. The shyt all fukked up breh
Absolutely. I talked to a builder yesterday and asked what’s the time frame for build and they told me 7 months from contract. That’s normal time frame so where is the shortages?
