True. At the same time, you're not going to coach the game of a player like Curry with a 30 year old playbook that predates the 3 point line... Music always moves in new directions, as do the expectations on the artists. It might not be for the better or it might be... In this case, Hip Hop has definitely been appropriated by pop and the artists that are out these days are for the most part pop artists. Ultimately though that might lead to something more revolutionary than Hip Hop, you never know.
If anything I think what'll happen is what's always happened.
It's hot now, so they'll incorporate it into their music then when it's not cool anymore
they'll make a costume change, swagger jack a new sound and then Hip-Hop is left to change
again or be left to irrelevance. Which means if something else gets hot, they'll be "inspired"
and rinse & repeat.
See Blues, Soul, Rock, Funk, Jazz etc.

This is the story of Black American Music in a nutshell.

Does this new generation by in large deserve respect?

You used to have to be an emcee. 100,000 YouTube views is the equivalent of skills nowadays

 My nikka Art Barr be goin in. Lol

These nikkaz better have some rhymes real talk,...
Yeah, I heard some good styles era linking rhymes that been outdated since 1991.
Yet I did not hear anything that was actually advanced.
or even worth investing to in the whole shady gunit after math technical base everyone in the industry uses as a standard and won't say where they typically got it from. if they don't rap double time or if they apply themselves to double time.
They still have 1999-2oo3 gunit shady after math technical bases.
In this guys shyt I did not even hear that or any cadence.
Just a bunch of ed og to special ed base era style rhymes that are outdated and don't work in the slowed down sonic landscape of today.
Which is exactly why a guy like lil Uzi vert will get false recognition for being prima donna about the style of production he raps on.
Yet, that is only deflection.
All because as an actual artist he lacks the ability to do this.
Lil Uzi vert and this guys are both different expression of the same type of wrong going on in rap.
Which was caused by the hiphopinfinity emo thing.
As it splinters two noob rebellious think tanks further away culturally.
All because they are to primadonna based.
to realize they are not committed to the culture and think a certain errant direction will authenicate them in rebellion.
When it does nuffin but ostracize them even more.

Neither direction of cultural rebellion leads to a promised land culturally.
At the end of the day, you won't fool a culture.
who already endured these issues from numerous narcissistic and culture theft based angles.
Sooner or later those types are going to expose their hand.
in their lack of cultural knowledge and irresponsibility.

Real talk, lyrically these guys are not nice, tho.
They are all styles war meets neo soul outdated nostalgia act bits.

Art Barr
I don't think "Neo-Soul" is an accurate description of Mick Jenkins at all.
Probably closer to a contemporary take on 90's Hip-Hop if you ask me.

I also wanted to say, the premise of this thread is that "No one new cares about the past".
I mean whether or not they're the greatest rappers since so and so from 20 to 30 years ago
is irrelevant IMO, they clearly invalidate the topic of this thread.

i don't know the nikkas catalog like that but he's nice

this is when the nikka was 16

This kid is not nice like that at all.

Speaking of a don cannon young artist and just the regression from ten years ago.

Imma post marvo who by the time this came out was advanced for his age but never matured vocally to be onkey.

Yet, rhyme wise marvo was ahead of his contemporaries in regression as far as advancing and still more advanced.
than what don cannon employs today in lil Uzi vert.
Plus, if asked would have tore it down with no question.
This is just ten years ago and six teen years from when I first heard marvo as a teen rapper and he was nicer than this vid as a younger teen.
to compare marvo to stro and to lil Uzi vert in age and cannon connections as an artist.

So, there is extreme skill regression and it is obvious.
if you know emcee'n and know the culture.

When I say encompasses neo soul to styles war that encompasses everything from westcoast shop organics shyt to expansive style based emcees on any coast.
As neo soul and styles war shyt go hand in hand together.
just from east semantics and even west coast shop semantics.
So, yes they all fit in that realm and go from styles war to neo soul.
If I post freestyle fellowship way cool or six tre they are double time to neo soul in simple one word expressions that anyone can get.
So, if they are pretty much the essential styles war double time artist that allows both coasts to fit into a drawing medium.
Plus the medium the largest drawing artist in that company has.
Then the smaller drawing artist are one in the same.
they just are not commercially viable.
Nor, are they capable in skill to perform the same drawing act.
as the larger drawing flagship artist in the company of that list.

Well when I say Neo-Soul, I'm just talking about a specific movement with very
specific artists. I do agree that Neo-Soul was directly influenced by Hip-Hop but I don't know
if I'd consider it a sub-genre of Hip-Hop but instead a new take on something that existed well before
Hip-Hop was even a thought.
