I would think studios have some level of control since it is their property. Then you gotta consider its always new movies dropping. So even if you can show it as long as you want, do you really wanna hold on to this movie that people arent checking for anymore but you get a higher cut instead if making room for the new movie that is gonna bring more people and in turn make your more money in concessions?
