When dudes in the early 90s did those smart dumb nikka raps :martin:

West coast rappers shytting on women (Death Row, NWA ), making it a trend . fukked up dating IMO long before social media was born.

Lyrics being heavily censored on the radio but rock/alternative songs got a pass :mjpls:

Can't front, the excessive gangsta rap shyt, made it hard for the regular black man to date. :francis: that's how these women of the 90s were: wanting a ruffneck that wanted to make love aka the "Tupac in a Business Suit" was born.

Dissing women had a point in the beginning, but got carried away and killed off the quality woman in America.

The fact that you think there's a 100 more proves my point.

There are VERY FEW rap albums in the East Coast that can fukk with Illmatic, Cuban Linx, Infamous, etc that I mentioned. But somehow, in the West Coast, there are a 100 more than can? :russ:

Cmon y'all. You can't tell the difference between a Mazda, a Volkswagen and a Ferrari? It's pretty fukking clear who made that apex rap and who didn't.

If you only posted Illmatic it would be a different convo.

other coasts always complaining about regional bias blah blah blah. But let's keep it 1 fukking hundred. Were other coasts dropping albums as brilliant as Illmatic, Ready To Die, Cuban Linx, Infamous, Liquid Swords, Dah Shinin, Main Ingredient back to back?

All of the above are considered classic with Illmatic largely being considered the greatest hip hop album ever. If the point you're trying to make is that the west coast has no real classics, you are wrong. Period.

nikkas re-write history about the 90s. nikkas got called out just as much back then for trend following, and at times it was accurate.

Many examples of that of that. Speaking of your boy 2pac, he got called out for dikk riding Death Row when they got poppin. So it goes both ways, but i feel what you saying.
Rae & Ghost put the purple tape out and all of a sudden everybody had the mafioso style.

Dre came with Chronic and all of a sudden everybody was on some "blunted" shyt rapping over funk beats. Even Redman got called out for it during the Dare Iz A Darkside era, accurate or not and i love Reggie.

Biggie & Puff got called out for dikkriding Death Rows sound. When they came out 1992-93 their style was typical eastcoast timbo boots and hardcore style raps. By 1994 all of a sudden they looped funk samples & Biggies flow basically got called for riding Snoop's wave with the playa/pimp shyt & the smooth flow. Puff was Dre, and Big like Snoop.

LL got called out twice actually. 1993 when they felt he tried to switch up to that hardcore shyt like Wu-Tang, Death Row etc. Then like you said once Wu had more shyt out & with Rae & Ghost purple tape? He sounded like he tried to make up cool lingo when he rapped like Wu did.

The same shyt happened then. But nikkas is like 18 tryna talk about the 90s just based on what they heard AFTERWARDS. Ask them now and they think 2pac and Biggie were literally gods
and seen as larger than life when they were around like they werent just 2 popular artists like others who caught heat, love & all too.
shyt, Dre went from "I dont curse or smoke weed because its known to cause brain damage" to putting out The Chronic 3 years later :pachaha:

You really want to revisit those classic albums in 2015 with that kind of context given the title and purpose of this thread?
The conversation we are having now doesn't have anything to do with the thread anymore. @SirBiatch said his piece and we all responded and now we are here. Everything I said is factual context for discussing these albums.
Breh I listed more than two albums and The Diary is one of the greatest hip hop albums period bar none.
I discussed all the albums you listed in the post you quoted or the one before that. If I missed one let me know.

@mobbinfms I respectfully disagree

1. Soul Food is a certified classic
2. Southernplaya literally put the South on the map. I'm sure you're familiar with the Source Awards and Andre's speech yada yada

Now I saw you argued Liquid Swords isn't on the level as a Paid in Full, Illmatic etc in terms of consensus or whatever. If you're going by that, then I can accept your assessment of Southern classics (except maybe Kast's best albums). BUT, I think Liquid Swords is consensus and it's my personal GOAT, so don't be disrespectful :P

nikka said UGK and 8 Ball & MJG are regional like nikkas outside of the northeast was really bumping Jeru the damaja and smif n wessun and cnn and shyt like that ... theyre all dope but you cant brush off southern acts for being regional then give classic status to equally regional east coast shyt
You don't understand. Jeru, CNN and Boot Camp were on major labels. Which means they got the same nationwide pubs everyone got, rap city, yo mtv and coverage in magazines. Coming Out Hard and Mytic were regional. Hip hop fans outside of the south didn't know they existed because they weren't on major labels and weren't getting videos aired or in magazines. This was basically how you found out about shyt back then. I'm sure there are some limited exceptions here and there.

living in the south i can tell you nobody really gave a shyt about mainstream hip-hop like that ... you would be looked at as a weirdo for having a jeru CD ... like yeah biggie, pac, snoop, dre etc got play but that other shyt? nah

They created the hype beast called social media to make black dating even more obscure than it really is. On top of the dudes that said/ lived that lifestyle end up not raising their sons properly, and they grew up to be all weak minded and simping.

  • In the mainstream it seemed you had to be gangster of some sort to be successful. That's why LL switched into a bit of gangster.
  • With that - you had so many fake gangsters it's embarrassing. I like to accept art for art but selling a negative image to young kids when you aint like that is real bad. At least Gucci - you get both sides to the coin and know about his situations. The 90's rappers made it look cool because it wasn't real. Until BIG & Pac died.
  • The whole "real hip hop" thing started back then.
  • Albums tended to be long AF too
