LL got called out twice actually. 1993 when they felt he tried to switch up to that hardcore shyt like Wu-Tang, Death Row etc. Then like you said once Wu had more shyt out & with Rae & Ghost purple tape? He sounded like he tried to make up cool lingo when he rapped like Wu did.

:russ: Im reading this and laughing my ass off. Yeah LL was definitely on some shyt like the white dad from American Pie "Hey kids...look, Im hip. Im cool....right?" 14 Shots era LL was embarassing.

edit: dude was only 23 but already a fossil in the game

other coasts always complaining about regional bias blah blah blah. But let's keep it 1 fukking hundred. Were other coasts dropping albums as brilliant as Illmatic, Ready To Die, Cuban Linx, Infamous, Liquid Swords, Dah Shinin, Main Ingredient back to back?

Breh really?
I don't agree with every album he listed. But his point is correct at least with regard to the South. Which I continue to contend does not have a single true GOAT album contender.
@SirBiatch you dead wrong about the west though.

remember the War Report cd jacket "Coming soon from Penalty Records" sheet? It was like 25 different albums that never dropped....from E Moneybags to Maze and Muzzolini

:russ: that E Money Bags shyt had him in some cheezy pic with like sunglasses on and some shyt, right. It looked like a G Rap cover from the 80s.

But I swear that Maze and Moose album didnt drop cause one of them got killed. I could be wrong. All my knowledge came from hip hop mags back then cause the internet wasn't invented yet.

And No Limit was HORRIBLE for this shyt, too. It seemed like the last No Limit CD I bought (Charge It 2 Tha Game) had a 9 page fold out full of albums. 2 pages full of albums that never dropped. And that 504 Boyz album that was supposed to be Silkk and Mystikal wound up having different nikkas photoshopped into the promo art every month.

I'm being serious. I got love for the other coasts too. I really need receipts on this :mjcry:

yeah I hear u. Southern hiphop is like Feminism to me. Their chest has been so pumped full of air over the last 10 years that they think they have been equal all along. Nah.....your ass still belongs in the damn kitchen.

@mobbinfms you don't think the South has a contender?

ATLiens, Aquemini, Southernplayalistic (less so), Soul Food, The Diary (less so). Idk if there are more, nothing comes to mind. But everyone can agree the East has the lions share of classics and GOAT contenders.

ATLiens is a top 10 album OAT imo

Even me being from the deep DEEP south, I kinda agree.

I mean, I tried to think of some albums and defend Da Souf, but really.... I can't think of many southern albums that made me go ":gladbron: Holy shyt this is a masterpiece" from the mid 90s.

SouthernPlayalistic, ATLiens, Soul Food. Lotta other stuff was on the verrrrge or slipped through the cracks of nationwide recognition.

I dunno. Some arguments can be made about impact and all that, Not really anything else I'd classify as classic without being nostalgia'ed by my ":birdman: look yall I'm a gangsta too" phase. Plenty of great singles. Nothing nationwide, though.

I think all those albums are classics (Soul Food maybe not). But not GOAT contenders. They just aren't in the conversation with Illmatic, Paid in Full, Chronic, It Takes a Nation, etc.
I think The Diary and Atliens are the closest based on consensus (which is all that matters for this type of thing).

and even as readers can see....

SouthernPlayalistic :hula: Aquemini.

Though I'll freely admit, more people will go with Aquemini.

ATLiens, though, all you south classic naysayers.
