Real thread. No bragging, just stating facts because I can't really understand why I'm not enjoying the fukk out of life.

shyt is crazy. I got what people would consider a great job, make almost 6 figures, got a nice car, stay in a nice place, got the latest of a lot of stuff, no kids, etc...

But I'm never really happy. Every day its like I'm just going through the motions. Get up in the morning, go to a place I don't really like (I'm the lone black dude in the department, the one sister is on some c00n shyt and the other blacks at the company are old), eventually come home, and just rinse, wash, and repeat. It's to the point where most of my happiness come from watching the Hawks win (please don't laugh :mjcry:).

Like I've literally been thinking to myself trying to figure this shyt out but I just don't understand it :wtf:. Guess I'm trying to ask y'all how are y'all finding happiness in this world?

I've been thinking about getting back into the church maybe...
Reconnecting with Jesus is definitely a great start to fill that empty void. Money isn't happiness. Deion Sanders pretty much went through the same thing. Had all the money, women, etc., and even won the superbowl, but ended up driving his car off of a small cliff because of his depression. He ended up finding God after. God, connection with family and great friends are what make life more fulfilling. The majority of books I've ready about the wealthy say that it's not money that is ultimately important, but rather relationships.

Some people will go out and try to find happiness and not know a thing about 'it' - its simply taken for granted. Some people just know that society has been throwing this word "happiness" around so loosely and we all should strive to 'get' it. Therefore, when depressed (or what have you..), most of us think we have to go 'out' and 'get' something (a new job, house, hobby, drugs, sex, certain new 'experiences' and so on).

But...

What is happiness?

What am I ACTUALLY getting at when using that word?

Is it something I can 'go out' and 'get'?

Does the 'thing' even exist?

Where would I find it, can someone give it to me?

Or is happiness the byproduct of something entirely different?

We both devs too

I can't shake this "this is it?" Feeling :wow:

Funny, you say this. Unless i'm programming something i'm interested in. It's just boring. Hence working on my game company on the side. Told my father yesterday, I don't plan on staying at this company. He was like "what?!?!?! , they pay you all that money"....I'm like look, I don't click with the Indians at my company like that ( They don't talk about sports, movies, music or video games ), only thing they talk about is gardening & their kids.:mindblown:.. to top it off they are always asking me " Why are you so quiet", I'm thinking you guys don't talk about shyt, I don't care about the latest cooking recipe.

Escapism is great for relieving stress but is unhealthy in this context and could possibly cause an addiction. This is why some people get fat, or become substance abusers. They just start consuming to pacify serious issues that they need to address.

Hobbies where he is being productive and building relationships would be better.

but even something that is productive such as networking or playing an instrument can become addiction...

I think its a fallacy that believe the latter types of hobbies do more for a person's quality of life then movies, television shows, videogames etc.

Too much of anything makes you an addict... and whichever passtime effectively removes the most stress from ur day to day life is more than acceptable.

"One must choose in life between boredom and suffering."

Its hard to just become happy, but if you look hard enough you can find ways to enjoy yourself within monotony... as we grow older things we look forward to such as vacations, partying etc... arent enough... its better that you look for something u can do everyday and look forward to.. like taking a walk and listening to a podcast...

If you got the funds you should take some time off during the summer and travel. That'll broaden your horizon and see that life isn't just about a 9 to 5.

Yes anything can become an addiction but it is much more likely to be addicted to an act that simply requires consumption rather than production.

When you are engaged in productive hobbies you have something more substantial and useful to show for your time. Skills, health benefits etc.

Were not talking about stress were talking about depression. I already said that those were good for stress relief...

Fake nikka problems. Try being black, broke, overworked, surrounded by racists and depressed. The highlight of my day is the 4 hours I get to sleep while folks are having dinner. I can't take ppl like you seriously.:camby:
