How old are you and what's your situation for starters?Any advice air force or military brehs?![]()
35, no wife, no kids, a little college, currently working a dead end job. The recruiter said I pretty much qualify I just have to lose five pounds before the enlistment process. How old are you and what's your situation for starters?
Air Force is a great place to start but they're typically the most selective. I absolutely feel the military isn't for everyone, but at the same time it can be the path people need to get above the water again - whether that leads them to better opportunities in the civilian world or a career in the military.
shyt, if you can get that weight off go for it35, no wife, no kids, a little college, currently working a dead end job. The recruiter said I pretty much qualify I just have to lose five pounds before the enlistment process.
I'm too old for Marines and Navy. I'm cutting it close for Armyshyt, if you can get that weight off go for it
ask for that pre-test as soon as you can, listen to what THAT recruiter has to say if you've got some decent scores, then immediately head online and see what you qualify for across ALL branches
you too old for a lot of shyt lolI'm too old for Marines and Navy. I'm cutting it close for Army
Like what?you too old for a lot of shyt lol
if you're gonna make the jump, you gotta roll with the idea that you're in for a lot no matter how you cut it. not even gonna try and down play that for you
you're cutting it real close on a lot of the age requirements as is.Like what?
Like what?
Yea the physical requirements was one of my worries, but I keep active. I don't smoke, drink on occasion, cut the soda and fast food out of my diet. Coffee with cream and sugar will be my downfallyou're cutting it real close on a lot of the age requirements as is.
air force can absolutely be a cushy gig, but even then you've got all of the physical demands that go along with getting there. you won't be going uphill and back 12 miles in the rain like in the army or marines, but its still a more physically demanding job than the vast majority of what civilians see. everyone likes to laugh along with "chair force" jokes, but people get kicked out every day breh.
most of all, i'm just trying to say keep your options open, don't talk yourself out of something this big with inconsequential stuff, analyze everything, and treat it like the life decision point that it is - even if you don't join up, you're still THINKING about it. That in itself is a big deal. No matter which way you go, you gotta be honest with yourself and play your best cards from here on out.
Breh just get into a union apprenticeship..Bricklayer, machinist, operating engineer, carpentry, pipefitter. You gotta give four years for the apprenticeship but you make some good bread35, no wife, no kids, a little college, currently working a dead end job. I'm basically working at a job where my supervisors are in their mid 20s, dead end and no benefitsOh where do we begin lol
Enlisting at 35 man is...a challenge to say the least.
At 35 you'll be a junior enlisted and while you'll be close to senior non commissioned officers and field grade officers in age, your peers as far as rank/responsibilities will be 18-22 year old kids. In fact you'll probably have a 24 year old kids as your supervisor. This may or may not bother you but realize that for pretty much the duration of your military career, you'll never be given the respect/benefit of the doubt your age reflects.
In addition to how your rank determines social dynamic, coming in at 35 as presumably a E-3 is a shytshow as far as what your actual job will be. Be prepared to be doing alot of the shops bytch work and bullshyt details all the while doing most of the grunt work as well.
At basic training you'll probably be picked on by the MTI's (drill sergeants) because of your age and will be assigned the position of dorm chief just because of your age. While basic is mostly a joke, the last thing you want is to draw attention and thats exactly what happens to older guys who enlist.
Lastly the military as a whole is wildly incompetent and overtly rigidly. You will encounter waves upon waves of stupidity being hoisted down on you. Many instances will have you counting down the days to get out.
If you had a degree, the easiest answer would be for you to commission as an officer.
However if all of this doesnt sway you from the AF and you want a job with the greatest use in the civilian world? GO COMM, CYBER OR INTEL AND DO NOT LET A RECRUITER TELL YOU ANY DIFFERENT.
