I feel like this towards weddings and engagements. I remember looking up the definition for congratulations to see why those events validated using that term as a response.

i dont agree entirely, but i see his point

black people celebrate these achievements because it's significant, considering historical context. someone who just graduated medical school had a grandparent who could only work menial jobs that either no longer exists or has been shipped to a country with cheaper labor. their great grandparent didnt fare off any better. the fact that these people's descendants are doing better than them, significantly better at that, is by definition excellence.

yes, you're supposed to do these things. you're also supposed to be able to have a regular childhood and not be harassed by cops for simply being black. you're supposed to have a lot of things and do a lot of things as a black person in america. what ought to be and what is are very different; context is very, very important

Being consistent without being distracted is how results happen. Time waits for no man. We have to push ourselves to accelerate ourselves.

A self-defeatist mentality prohibits potential. A growth mentality inhibits potential. We need to believe we're capable to be capable. Drowning in self doubt leads to self doubt. We must go forward.

People with his sentiment tend to be jealous of others and hence why they look down on celebrating college, obtaining degrees, getting hired for a job, or just pretty much anything that makes others happy for accomplishing a goal.

I always took "black excellence" to mean for the standard the average black person is judged by, hence why black is being used as the descriptor to begin with. That seems fair given the historical context involved
