These verbal agreements, and this dumbass moratorium period needs to go by next summer. Silver needs to fix this

Dallas proceeded moving forward thinking they had Deandre signed. They inked Wes Matthews, made trades to make this possible. Can completely alter the course of their franchise

Not to mention one big signing sets into motion a domino effect with other signings around the league

I know it's for good fukkery and it's great seeing Cuban get screwed... but nah

Reflects poorly on the league period
Until you sign there is no promise to sh!t

If Deandre Jordan had blown up his hands playing with fireworks over the weekend the Mavs would have withdrawn their offer

Besides there is precedent: Carlos Boozer did this to the Cavs and went to Utah instead after agreeing to sign with the Cavs

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make? I obviously understand the rule and think it's stupid. I think you're agreeing with me lol

And again, the Boozer situation was not the same. Yall need to stop saying that

He gonna try to force DeAndre to play there? Doubt that would create a good environment
No, surely he would sue Jordan or the Clippers for monetary damages in the form of damaged product, future revenue lost, yadda yadda

Edit: Though I wouldn't be surprised if the league handles this internally or with mediation

Nah I'm not with it. Until the contract is signed, nothing is binding and it sounds like Deandre was under duress from his agent to sign the deal. I have no problem with players, who have earned their free agency BTW, having the ability to negotiate a deal and if they don't like it, have time to get out of that deal and find something else. If that's not where he wanted to truly go and has time to reconsider, I'm in favor of him getting it right and being happy with his decision

When the hell did I say Deandre is doing anything wrong? :what:

I'm saying the rule is stupid and it's ridiculous the NBA allows this

I'm almost surprised it hasn't happened more often. Giving these guys a whole week to let them think about it and renege on a verbal contract. This really is grounds for a lawsuit if Cuban wants to take it there. Verbal agreements can be legally binding...
I'm also hearing some tampering being done by Cuban and Dan Fegan who reps both DeAndre Jordan and Wes Mathews

Nah, its squarely on the league.

I would love for someone to explain the logic behind the moratorium period

My theory is that it is in place to prevent teams from pulling some sort of mind fukk on a guy and getting him to sign on the spot. This way he has a week to discuss it with his people and even back out and other teams have a chance to put their bid in. Honestly, if a team goes forward like it's a done deal that's on them. Cuban didn't make his billions being a boy scout and I am sure he's done others way dirtier.

You know you don't believe this breh :francis:

That contract won't be that bad in two seasons
No, I absolutely do.

If we had other pieces in place (younger Dirk, solid wings, a half decent PG that can shoot and play PnR well), and were annually contending for a 4-6 seed in the West, he might be the final piece to get us over the hump.

As is, this team is in utter disarray and Cuban needs to realize it's over and time to rebuild.

I'd rather just be shytty and tank than constantly make the playoffs and lose in the first round. Prevents the team from ever acquiring any meaningful assets.

The rule is in place for salary cap reasons. I don't think because this happened with Deandre that you need to now change the entire rule about the moratorium. Y'all are so over reactionary sometimes :camby:

Don't know is this is true or not.. The thing is that it f*cks up your pursuit of other free agents and moves if a guy breaks his handshake deal. If we get DJ back they'll change this. Cats will be able to sign on July 1st by next season. DJ pressured into going to Dallas by his agent, plus he's mentally weak.. He didn't want to leave.
