My theory is that it is in place to prevent teams from pulling some sort of mind fukk on a guy and getting him to sign on the spot. This way he has a week to discuss it with his people and even back out and other teams have a chance to put their bid in. Honestly, if a team goes forward like it's a done deal that's on them. Cuban didn't make his billions being a boy scout and I am sure he's done others way dirtier.

Nobody needs to be doing anyone dirty though, that's kinda my point. League could easily fix this

How you gonna say it's on a team for going forward thinking they have someone signed but then say on the other hand say the players need a week to think about the commitment they just made.

So it's on a team for moving forward thinking they have someone locked up, but it's not on a player for committing to a deal? Doesn't add up

The rule is in place for salary cap reasons. I don't think because this happened with Deandre that you need to now change the entire rule about the moratorium. Y'all are so over reactionary sometimes :camby:

You say all this but I'm 100% certain the league will discuss fixing this

How is that being reactionary? This is gonna be a huge story for the league

The whole point is you can take a week to mull offers without making a verbal commitment. OP is right its a horrible precedent and should be addressed immediately.

It works both ways though. Teams get a week to think about/do research and players have all kinds of expectations get dashed all the time when someone changes their mind.

So... haven't u made verbal agreements about joining a company and a few weeks later u take another job offer and it's the job u really wanted...

It's Dallas fault.... same as Phoenix when they made all those trades for LMA
Ya'll cant relate everything in the sports world to some office gig

No, because jobs in the real world don't have 'moratorium periods' lol

and thats not a very apt comparison. Deandre has been with the Clippers and they offered him the most $$ - he really just decided thats the job he wanted RIGHT now? lol cmon now

lets just put it this way, its stupid to try to relate normal jobs to the NBA. just stupid

And what precedent is that...don't trust any of these fickle man children until you get ink on paper? It's not like teams don't know this is a possibility.

Cuban remember when you stopped CP3 from coming to my Lakers...

On behalf of every Lakers fan...

Eat my balls.... I hope Deandre pulls a 180 on his ass..

Side note, this is why NBA shouldnt allow handshake deals a week early, everyone is love dovey in the nba now and you can get your money from anywhere, so easy to have people change their mind. Set a date, have people sign papers yes/no, thats it.
