If they do have to award support, they should at least determine a fixed amount that a stay at home mother/homemaker is worth, instead of making it dependent on the net worth of the husband. This at least will alllow men to budget for marriage and divorce and not end up broke.
You can just know ahead of time, ok a divorce with 2 kids is gonna cost me the price of having a premium full time nanny with benefits in my state.
Unless she can prove an lost opportunity cost that shows how much she would've realistically been able to earn working for full time during that period. Then you have to cover the lost wages, say if she gave up being a lawyer to take care of your kids. fine, but if you have no kids, she shouldn't even be supported, she had time to continue doing whatever you wanted and opted not to.
