It’s a seaport.

One of the worlds largest shipyards is there.

As far as projects, there’s a few Newsome Park, Marshall Courts, Stuart Gardens, etc. but there’s little pockets of hoods all over the city..
To add to that there is a military base Ft Eustis

Is it a military base or seaport? Heard theres a lot of housing projects down there.

Used to have a lot more but they've been tearing them down over the past 25 years. Harbor Homes, dikkerson Court, Woodsong, Glen Gardens, etc.

Still have a grip Downtown and Uptown. Like Tuck said, Marshall Courts, Stuart Gardens, Lassiter Courts, Ridley Circle, Aqua Vista, Aqueduct, Cypress Terrace, Oyster Point. Plus a bunch of section 8 spots, Heritage Trace, Newsome Park, Courthouse Lane, Warwick Lawns, Dresden, Autumn Lakes, Lees Mill, etc.

City is two main roads and suburban as hell, so unless you're downtown you really won't run into trouble unless you're looking for it. It also means most spots are isolated so folk are clicky as hell. You get beef between uptown and downtown crews sometimes. NN and Hampton are damn near one city, and if you from either city you know folk all over both cities.

There is a huge military presence given the bases in the area. It's not as bad as southside, but if you in the area for more than a day you gon run into military people. There ain't as much to do in NN/Hampton except get into trouble (in the words of Pusha T, ain't shyt to do but cook). NN/Hampton is split almost 50/50 black-white but once you cross into the surrounding counties it gets real :mjpls: real quick. Traffic is a bytch cause everyone has to drive since there is almost no public transportation. Food is good, bytches are bad, you got real nikkas and bytch nikkas just like everywhere else.

Like Tuck said, home to the largest shipyard in the US, it's the 2nd largest employer in the state but you notice the military presence in the area more than the shipyard. It being so close to Williamsburg, Norfolk, and VB means there's a lot of options if you want to travel, but most folk just link up, stay local, and get into trouble.

All those projects in the east end when you came out the Monitor-Merrimack used to look grimy as fukk.

I’m from Portsmouth and NN was the only city in the 757 Portsmouth dudes were kinda :whoa: about.

You talking about dikkerson Courts and Harbor Homes.

They gone now, but it didn't get much grimier in the 80s/90s.

I'm from about 10 min from there, up the street, and even I didn't fukk around out there in my teen years.

My auntie used to have me out there all the time when I was a shorty though.

I remember visiting a friend in Newport News and she told me we were going downtown

My face when we reached "downtown" was priceless :mjlol:

I can imagine :russ:

White folks call it the East End, but it's downtown to us.

What is really our "downtown", where the court houses, mayor's office and shyt is, we call Overtown.

I wonder if it’s as anemic as va beach’s “downtown”

norfolk probably the only city in the 757 w/ a respectable “downtown” lol

Portsmouth too.

Like I told breh, our downtown ain't the traditional downtown.

Newport News is shaped like a cucumber and we cut it into sections.

So the bottom section of the cucumber, where the worst hoods are, is downtown or down the bottom.

Then once you cross like Mercury Blvd (going up Jefferson Ave.) all the way up to J. Clyde, that's midtown, everything past that is uptown or Denbigh.

Our downtown area where the couple high rises, court houses, jails and shyt is, we call that overtown.

Lol that’s a lot of people stories about the projects. They’re fun to hang out in until you’re old enough to get robbed.
