Classic song. Obvious exception. Perfectly fit the theme of the movie it was for.
Aside from that, they routinely came across like herbs.

I still hate how in all these shows they blame the rise in hip-hop for a fall off while ignoring the drop off in the quality of music. They had their own lane with the ballads and still went double with the Evolution album. By the Nathan, Michael, Shawn, Wanya album they were mostly sounding just like every other R&B group with the more uptempo ballads that plenty of other groups were doing. They was putting up numbers numbers. It’s crazy how shyt can shift that fast from the highest high to performing at a bar with a mechanical bull![]()

I disagree. Maybe you can correct me but I can't think of a huge artist who lost a lot of popularity while still putting out the same quality music. In damn near every case where I saw that artist/group fall of they changed the sound that popularized them while chasing the hip-hop/hardcore sound. Maybe it's a case of the record company not allowing them to release the project unless they updated that sound. Basically my point is that none of these artists ever look internally or say we fell off and the music just isn't as good as it used to be.This is 2 different points tho
All artist peak and have a time where there music is very impactful in the mainstream
but, the more popular hiphop got the less people wanted to hear R&B. When the late 80s and early 90s kids started reaching the ages where they determine what’s popular it became pretty clear that fans prefer rap
Quality is subjective, but do you think someone like Usher who fell off after confessions stop putting out quality or did the fans just move on?I disagree. Nah, happens all the time. Sounds change, people peak. Prime example - people like Dwele, Musiq, D’angelo, Badu etc. they put out quality music album after album but as people left r&b and novelty of neo soul wore off, they sold less despite their hardcore fans still loving everything they made. You gotta be real exceptional to be relevant (saleswise) past one eraI disagree. shyt R&B was still selling damn well in 2000 when Boyz II Men took the hit.
I think the doc moreso blamed the mid90s boy band craze.I still hate how in all these shows they blame the rise in hip-hop for a fall off while ignoring the drop off in the quality of music. It was a combo of both. People still to this day complain that Usher fell off after Confessions. Usher still had smashes but albums stopping hitting those crazy high numbers they did compared to when Confessions dropped due to music sharing becoming more widespread.Quality is subjective, but do you think someone like Usher who fell off after confessions stop putting out quality or did the fans just move on?
eventually the fans are going to get tired hearing how you make music no matter how good the music may be. Now , that time is different for every Artist
With those artists you named there is no true gauge to tell how much they fell off sales wise or popularity wise. They all did numbers before music sharing became a huge thing. Most artists experienced a steep decline in sales once it became easier and easier to obtain music for free. I will agree with you in that radio stopped playing neo-soul to the degree that it did during the peak. But in this case for when B2M fell off there was still ballads that were making radio.Nah, happens all the time. Sounds change, people peak. They had a small section saying how B2M lost popularity due to their image being considered too safe with the rise of the more raunchy R&B artists and the hip-hop popularity taking off.I think the doc moreso blamed the mid90s boy band craze.
Motown cloned BoyzIIMen but with white boys and made 98 Degrees.
I think most would put respect on their name. A lot of people just find the music boring. I also see some of their peers even seeing them in a negative light in regard to them being condescending. Kandi detailed a bad experience when she worked with them.
I remember Dallas Austin saying the same thing. He had issues with them in the studio.
