North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
I think it's dumb, you earn the 8 seed just as much as you earn the 1st seed. What I don't understand is why they have to include the 7th seed? I can halfway see trying to drum up excitement for the final spot, but the 7th seed being thrown in there for good measure is pure BS.

The only advantage the 7th and 8th seed have is they can lose and still have a chance to advance.

9th vs 10th - The winner moves on the loser goes home.

7th vs 8th - The winner automatically gets the 7th seed and plays the 2 seed. The loser plays the winner of the 9th vs 10. Whoever wins that game gets the 8th seed.

So basically the 7th and 8th seed are fighting for the right to play the 2 seed. But the 7th seed gets screwed because they could either be forced to play he 1 seed or go home altogether.

I don’t love it but if it kicks up some fukkery, I’m here for it.

But at the end of the day, it’s about winning a series, so other than the 7/8 seed maybe getting bumped - everything else plays out the same. When is the last time a 7/8 seed made the finals? Exactly. So it doesn’t matter if it’s the season record 7/8 seed or the play-in 7/8 seed

Going by that logic, why not include the 6th seed in the play-in tournament as well?

For the record, the Knicks made the Finals as the 8th seed in 1999. Shortened season yes, but it still counts.

Houston in 1994-1995 is the lowest seed to make the Finals and win.

22 years ago. So it’s highly uncommon. Like I said, it ain’t really changing the final outcome of the playoffs :manny:

Highly uncommon, but let's not pretend like the 7th and 8th seeds aren't the only ones who don't have a shot of making and winning the finals. There have been outliers, but for the most part if you aren't top 3/4 seed, then you aren't making the finals and winning the championship.

Nah, I love this.... The sense of entitlement by 7th and 8th seeds is laughable. And at the end of the day, the NBA is about business and the fact they have been able to keep people interested in the last month of the season is a win win...

People having an issue with it is also another win. Because everyone who is complaining about it will definitely be tuned into to watch those play in games. I just don't see the down side

man just win!

thats the name of the game. it may be corny but at the same time you cant complain if you are one of those teams. you shoudlve performed better built a better deeper team.

i would like to see going forward if they continue this change 1st round to best of 5... shyt even 3 idc especially if that means less load mgmt and "injuries" to perserve for teh off

That’s all it comes down to.

Cats really complaining about watching more competitive basketball.

but why have conferences then?

Scheduling and travel.

Exactly and brehs not really tryna see Nets/Lakers in Round 1

That's true for this year. But we would've loved LA squared in the Finals last year. Spurs/Lakers could've made some nice Finals in the past. It's not like every Finals is a compelling matchup. It's a crapshoot. You actually have a greater chance of having that compelling Finals if you aren't limited by conferences.

you want to fix the regular season...there's gotta be real consequences for consistent losing

removal of the draft & relegation will force these teams to compete for all 82 games
