You also have the fact that most of the players that thrive in drive and kick systems can either shoot enough to draw the defense close or can finish at the rim well enough to draw multiple defenders in the paint.

If you can't do one of those two things then you have very limited effectiveness in the half court as a point guard.

If, on top of those two things, you aren't an elite PnR player then you're pretty much only out there for transition

Tyler Ulis is a great example of someone who is in the league solely for his PnR ability; it's that important to the current NBA.
