Yes, there are LOTS of secret societies. They tend to be comprised of people in positions of power who desire to keep that power as internal as possible. They throw in random meaningless traditions and rituals (different in every one) as part of maintaining group solidarity, but their power is always in their pre-existing power and solidarity, not in the silly rituals.

if the silly rituals worked, then anyone who had beef would just run off and start those rituals with his own buddies and rise to the same success, and over thousands of years that would have happened so many times that everyone would be doing it. We should only ever pray to God for something that's part of God's will. For example, it's ok to pray to God for a wife because He says it's a good thing for a man to find a wife, but it's wrong to pray for a woman to fornicate with since we know God sees that as a sin.

The closest thing to a cheat code if you want to call it that, is fasting and praying.
