As long as it's not during a meeting, I don't care
I work in HR Employee Relations and if any idiot came to me complaining about other people speaking their native language to other employees I'd tell them too bad. Deal with it.if it bothers you so much tell it to your HR rep how you feel![]()
Is it a supervisor's business to ensure that the work that needs to get done get done?Only people who care about people speaking another language around them are people who just have to be in everybody's business, just have to be the know-it-all in every room they're in.
This can't be serious.
i wouldnt want to get on my boss bad side or break the companys rules so noCool. But, not everyone view it like you. That is the main point being missed by some posters.
Let me ask you a couple of questions..
If you spoke another language other than English and your boss told you that he or she was offended, would you still do it?
What if it is against company policy to speak a foreign language unless it is for business reasons, would you do it?
Some ppl simply don't like when ppl speak a foreign language. Those ppl have a right to be offended, especially when the condition of employment is to speak English.
I actually agree if only I can see how south things can go when one doesn't consider how bad it can go. For example in some work places, if you have too many workers who speak that foreign language, they can become discriminatory towards those who don't speak that language. Yeah, you may be able to sue but the whole hassle could and should have been prevented in the first place by speaking the native language of that region. In any case, this is how hispanic people have been able to take over whole areas, including black ones.I am sure this topic has been brought up before, but I want to revisit the topic.
What are your thoughts on ppl who feel that it is OK to speak a non English speaking
language @ work?
My postion is that everyone need to speak a common language unless their specific job description calls for them to speak another language.
Other than that, it is impolite to rude especially around coworkers who do not speak that particular language.
Thoughts??
Check this out..I work in HR Employee Relations and if any idiot came to me complaining about other people speaking their native language to other employees I'd tell them too bad. Deal with it.
I work in a solid size hospital setting and lot of foreigners work in Housekeeping. Africans, Hispanics, different types of middle eastern people. They all talk in their native language when they talking with an employee of the same ethnicity. That's how they relate to each other. That's how they are comfortable with each other. Some of them don't even speak English that well.
Being upset at them is some white supremacist racist shyt.

U can speak whatever language u want just get the job done
What's crazy is learning another language and practicing at work or even a social setting with a native speaker
People do get offended
Then either train them to better execute their job or put them on a performance improvement plan…what does the language they speak have to do with not doing their job? Unless they can’t speak English and need to be talking to customers and that’s why they’re failing…otherwise speaking some other language in the break room or at each other’s desks shouldn’t matterQuestion, what if a person is speaking whatever language they are speaking, but isn't getting the job done according to the supervisor, then what?
