Only people who care about people speaking another language around them are people who just have to be in everybody's business, just have to be the know-it-all in every room they're in.

This can't be serious.

As long as it's not during a meeting, I don't care

Cool. But, you placed conditions on it. That's cool as well.

Idk??

One of the hardest things I have learned with working with copious amount of ppl(literally speaking) is that everyone is different.

But, aside from that, policy is policy. Ppl get offended by all kinds of stuff and many times, you don't know who is offended nor why until you get addressed by an superordinate.

If you have a personality that is flexible enough to establish a decent level of rapport with different types of ppl, then you are pretty much in a good position to speak your mind. Outside if that, good luck! 🤞🏿

if it bothers you so much tell it to your HR rep how you feel :pachaha:
I work in HR Employee Relations and if any idiot came to me complaining about other people speaking their native language to other employees I'd tell them too bad. Deal with it.

I work in a solid size hospital setting and lot of foreigners work in Housekeeping. Africans, Hispanics, different types of middle eastern people. They all talk in their native language when they talking with an employee of the same ethnicity. That's how they relate to each other. That's how they are comfortable with each other. Some of them don't speak English well at all.

Being upset at them is some white supremacist racist shyt.

Is it a supervisor's business to ensure that the work that needs to get done get done?

I am pro mind your business. But, I am also pro keep my business to myself and do my job while getting paid as well. Something has to take priority??

Cool. But, not everyone view it like you. That is the main point being missed by some posters.

Let me ask you a couple of questions..

If you spoke another language other than English and your boss told you that he or she was offended, would you still do it?

What if it is against company policy to speak a foreign language unless it is for business reasons, would you do it?
i wouldnt want to get on my boss bad side or break the companys rules so no

Some ppl simply don't like when ppl speak a foreign language. Those ppl have a right to be offended, especially when the condition of employment is to speak English.

No they don't. Just like they don't have the right to be offended because the person next to them is Black, or vegan, or Muslim, or whatever.

Myself and my own.
I am sure this topic has been brought up before, but I want to revisit the topic.

What are your thoughts on ppl who feel that it is OK to speak a non English speaking
language @ work?

My postion is that everyone need to speak a common language unless their specific job description calls for them to speak another language.

Other than that, it is impolite to rude especially around coworkers who do not speak that particular language.

Thoughts??
I actually agree if only I can see how south things can go when one doesn't consider how bad it can go. For example in some work places, if you have too many workers who speak that foreign language, they can become discriminatory towards those who don't speak that language. Yeah, you may be able to sue but the whole hassle could and should have been prevented in the first place by speaking the native language of that region. In any case, this is how hispanic people have been able to take over whole areas, including black ones.

Check this out..

OK, ol' girl who brought this iish up on another platform said that she suspected her supervisor of being a racist.

But,

Who is the POTUS right now? What has he been doing regarding discrimination now?

Who is getting these supervisory and positions to hire and fire? What is the color of their skin primarily?

Every HR is different. But, there are laws. Wanna hash it out in court against a person who will be given the benefit of the doubt over someone of lesser social standing according to them?

I ain't trippin! But, the racist is tripping and is still a supervisor! *shrugs*

There was a case in the Inland Empire, CA where Hispanics was harassing Black workers in the wherehouse sector some years back. I believe the Black worker won the lawsuit.

So, I know how some Hispanics roll.

Thing is..

Ppl on this site like to use a broad 🖌 to 🎨 all Hispanics as monoliths when that isn't the case by a long shot.

Solid Hispanics, like any other of ppl, will treat you how you treat them. Some will even show love and help out a Black person or another person, if they established rapport and respect with/for you.

I know this firsthand...

But, it comes down to company policy and whether said policy is enforced or not..

Question, what if a person is speaking whatever language they are speaking, but isn't getting the job done according to the supervisor, then what?

Then either train them to better execute their job or put them on a performance improvement plan…what does the language they speak have to do with not doing their job? Unless they can’t speak English and need to be talking to customers and that’s why they’re failing…otherwise speaking some other language in the break room or at each other’s desks shouldn’t matter
