Roc Nation isn't a distributor. Universal distributes for them. They messed this up...

Tidal messed it up. Universal does not control tidal's website/streaming service. Tidal workers put the album on there before they were supposed to, then quickly took it down. It's not difficult to understand.

Do you actually know how this works? Distributors like Sony and Universal control the tech required to upload music onto iTunes/Tidal or any other music service. It's the new version of the album press & trucks to deliver albums to Best Buy. Tidal doesn't have the album until Universal uploads it and then it's automatically available. Why in the hell would Tidal workers have the album to upload? Digital releases are timed & released automatically by the distributors.

Once the labels determine a release date, the distributors input that date into the computers and the music is automatically released. Universal messed up the date input and it released the album to Tidal a day early. It's the same way Universal messed up and uploaded Kendrick's album a week early onto iTunes.

Update: A TIDAL representative has reached out with the following clarifications to Kim’s comments. In regards to TIDAL’s “systems error,” Kim is “referring to a system error caused by Universal Music Group. The error was not something TIDAL caused.”

In regards to Kim’s comment that Billboard and Nielsen are not counting ANTI’s sales on TIDAL toward their totals, TIDAL has clarified with the following statement: “Billboard and Nielsen are counting ANTI’s sales on TIDAL towards their totals, [but] they aren’t counting the Samsung/Rihanna download code gift to fans. The 400k+ sales ofANTI via TIDAL will be counted by Billboard.”

Update 2: Another TIDAL rep further clarified the situation: “Of the 400K+ in global sales of ANTI via TIDAL, Billboard will only be counting US sales.”

Looks like you were right.

UMG said it was tidal's fault.

The long-delayed and much-discussedAnti finally came out on Thursday night exclusively on Tidal for streaming and download, but was accidentally posted to the service earlier, around 7 p.m. Thursday evening, after which the LP spread across the internet before its official release. Speaking to SPIN, Tidal's marketing director Grace Kim called the leak a "system error," and emphasized that it didn't hurt the release. After the article published, a rep for the streaming service later elaborated to the publication that Kim was "referring to a system error caused by Universal Music Group. The error was not something Tidal caused."

Not surprisingly, that characterization hasn't sat well with Universal, which maintains it did everything according to protocol. "This whole thing is absurd, we would have taken responsibility if it were our error," says one UMG executive who spoke on the condition of anonymity. "Instead of having their flack flail around trying to revise their own media spin, maybe they should just focus on serving Rihanna -- that's what we're focused on."

Nope, it was tidal. @MIAlien

Jay z/roc nation is also not promoting anti on itunes and stuff like he should. Itunes is where most people go to get their music. He didn't get rih a banner on there. All of her online banners/promo say "only on tidal" still.

Gerrick Kennedy's quote isn't proof of anything.

Both camps are blaming each other.

That writer is "in the know" when it comes to things dealing with rih. It has been proven plenty of times. Tidal is the only one saying that tidal is innocent.

Look .. .at this point they're both pointing fingers at each other. The "in the know guy" didn't post any proof. It's all he said she said as this point.

At that what does it matter?

The album is out and doing pretty well.

I don't get what you want prove tbh?

That Tidal is a horrible thing and everyone should be angry at it? Makes no sense.

Some artist will use Spotify to promote their work. Some Apple. Some Tidal.

Time will tell which platform succeeds.

Do you work for one of these platforms?

You're awfully personally invested.

Of course cause UMG wont take responsibilty. The distributor is supposed to handle all the uploads to the streaming services.

It makes no sense for TIDAL to have the album before the label UMG :manny:

You seem to be as well. Post #109

It's fine though. Enjoy the album

If you go back and read my previous posts, you'll see.

You forget that rihanna owns part of tidal and that roc nation, people she works with/for also own tidal. They can really do whatever, so it more than likely did not happen the way you guys described, which is why tidal is to blame according to everyone except for tidal.

I know alot of people who work pr for competing companies, Apple, Tidal, whoever, come on this site.

Yeah, I'll keep enjoying it. It's a pretty good album.

We don't know who the journalist you're posting is sourcing. He said people in her camp. God knows who that is or what means. It's more gossip than anything until his source is proven.

You're free to believe that Tidal screwed up though. I'm sure most don't care now the album has launched. Most consumers anyway. I hear more industry analyst foaming at the mouth than anything.

Also, I don't trust Twitter or even these websites because like I said so many competitors plant pr hacks in here to drum up the drama they're looking for. It's not guaranteed the angst is organic.

At any rate it doesn't matter anymore. The album has launched. Whether or not the model Tidal has created is successful or not is still up in the air.

Time will tell.
