shyt is tough. Duncan is undeniably the greatest PF of all time. Bird also is an All-time great. Duncan affected games with his low post dominance while Bird affected games inside and out.

I'll take Duncan because IMO everything starts in the paint and he had a greater influence in that area. If I had to pick a player between them to close out games, I'd pick Bird though.

I would take Duncan over Bird without thinking twice and that is no diss to Larry Legend. But Duncan is complete on both ends of the floor and he has proven to be more durable than Larry too. And its funny we call Tim the best power forward ever but he's been playing center pretty much since Robinson retired.

It's interesting that neither won back to back titles. Shaq has, hakeem has, Jordan has, kobe has, magic has, Russell has, Lebron is on pace to etc

Bird, and Duncan had some bad luck in that regard.

After the celtics won the title in 86, Mchale broke his foot in the regular season, bill walton got hurt, and of course bias overdosed after being drafted. The 87 celtics were playing guys 40 minutes a night and they were burned out in the finals. not to mention Bird played in the toughest decade where only the lakers repeated as champs, in the 80's. The pistons won in 89 and 90

In 2000 after repeating, Duncan get's hurt and misses the playoffs and they lose to phoenix in round 1. In 2004, fisher's .4 shot sunk them. In 2006 Manu had an awful foul on dirk in game 7 on their home floor. in 2008, they got robbed when fisher fouled brent barry on that 3pt attempt in game 4 of the conference finals, otherwise that series probably goes the distance

Yeah Duncan could easily have 7 titles instead of 4

It's a fukkin coin toss.

I would vote for Larry because having seen most of his career 1st hand. He won the hardest rings there were to get. Beating the Twin Towers in 86 :wow:

But I would put Duncan just a hair below, if he pulls off another ring though, that argument is over.

:pachaha:

That series was over in 5. In that same game the refs didn't gave Kobe ONE CALL. He was getting hacked left and right. Don't even bring up the refs for that game.

He could easily have zero too.

Spurs benefited greatly from a lockout season in 99. The entire league was out of wack. They played an effin 8th seed in the finals.

All the big time superstars out in the West were injured in 2003. Chris Webber damaged his knee, Shaq had foot injuries, Kobe had shoulder and knee injuries and Dirk severally sprained his ankle in the WCF vs the Spurs.

In 2005 Kobe and Shaq broke up and Joe Johnson broke his face vs the Spurs.

In 2007 the NBA suspended Diaw and Amare in the WCF vs the Spurs. :comeon:

Spurs caught several lucky breaks.

Alot of title teams have injuries or bad luck, can't use it as an excuse.

Look at the heat with bosh last year or Andrew Bynum with the lakers from 09-10, or Caron butler on the 11' Mavs etc

Hell duncan has never even been to back to back finals. At least Larry went to 4 straight

If Duncan gets another ring, it wont be because of him...
