People aren't insinuating anything. Aaliyah was a star. Was she the Beyonce, Diana Ross, or Mariah Carey of her time? No, but she carved out her own legacy in music that was both impactful and influential to the point where have artists like Drake, J. Cole, and a plethora of female R&B artists (Beyonce included) still citing her as an influence on them.

and how many of them would be citing her as an influence if she didnt pass away? cuz theres no traces of aaliyah in any of them.

and regardless, since when is being influential grounds for having a movie?

People claiming Aaliyah wasn't a big deal before her death are either trolling or young. She was extremely popular, probably the most popular female R&B singer at the time not named Mariah Carey.

:dead:

so youre saying she was more popular than mary, whitney, toni, janet, etc etc?

she was barely even a top 3 TEEN female r&b singer. she played 3rd fiddle to monica & brandy.

nobody said she wasnt a big deal. but she wasnt a huge deal. not anywhere near what yall are making her out to be.

and youre a rap guy. you just liked her beats.

At the time, yes she was, in 2001. Her music was getting non-stop play, she was doing big budget films, and her videos were in constant rotation. And Brandy was extremely popular too, you said that like Brandy was a nobody. Monica was a distant third of those three.

The artists that I listed didn't even exist as artists when she was alive. They are old enough to remember when she was though. It's obvious that her music was an influence. All of them have songs that have elements of Aaliyah in them.

I disagree. Neither Brandy nor Monica were hot in the new millennium. Definitely not as hot as Aaliyah was. Even more important is how ICONIC she was. Nobody talks about how good of an actress Marilyn Monroe was.

in 2001 she was washed breh.

aaliyah was not more popular than monica. only rap heads who dont follow r&b say that. in reality, monica was neck-n-neck with brandy.

aaliyah was the clear-cut 3rd wheel breh.

:what:

monica still cranking out hits in recent years like 2010. so how was she not hot in the millenium?

yall need to stick to hip-hop man. lol @ aaliyah being an icon before she passed. LOL.

and none of them were even compared to each other after the '90s anyway. they all branched off into different directions.

2001 was her most popular year. Fam you're bugging the fukk out right now lol. Seriously.

yea BECAUSE SHE DIED.

and that album was a flop when it was released. it didnt start doing well until the unfortunate accident.

you the homie and all breh, but you dont even like r&b like that. whats the purpose of this exchange?
