Timbaland is my favorite producer. My research so far leads me to believe his decline can be traced to these steps

1. In 1999, with the release of Missy's Da real World album, he forced himself to change his style due to all the beat biters. He still had a gang of hits but the flexibility of the 'double time' style was gone and his style was simplified

2. He started using Open Labs Neko/Miko Vst keyboard instead of his trusty ASR-10 (and to a lesser extent, Triton). Those vst sounds are garbage and everybody has easy access to the same sounds. Again, simplifying himself.

3. He stopped using his goto Engineer Jimmy "Senator Jimmy D" Douglass sometime after FutreSex/LoveSounds. The same Engineer he's been working with since he was a ghost producer for jodeci.

4. Lastly, but most importantly, he stopped trying to innovate. I was listening to some of the stuff he was previewing from his production camp about a year ago on ig. The whole shyt was sounding like some wanna be yeezus shyt (tape distorted, pitched 808 kicks). :snoop:

When you're as dope as timbaland is i don't think you can truly fall off. When you're as hot and innovative as timbaland was, and your new ideas are being stifled by a music industry that refuses to take chances, you CAN get it in your head that it's best to try to run with the pack instead of trying to lead the pack

Times caught up and surpassed his music. I'm being as objective as can be as a Neptunes stan.

I respectfully disagree with this. You can say the same about The Neptunes. I mean, when Timbaland had that streak in '06, The Neptunes were pretty much nonexistent and didn't make a solid comeback until "Blurred Lines". In the meantime, Tim was still killing and giving Pharrell a good run for his money during his comeback.

Maybe Timbo just needs an artist he can really believe in and innovate with. Dude used to rock with Missy, Ginuwine, Aaliyah, Static Major....his clique was hard. He need to find somebody he can take in as his artist and start putting out some futuristic shyt again.

Really the issue is consumers' taste. I am shocked that Pharrell after all this time still getting songs on the chart.

I would advise Timbaland to simplify his music. Max Martin is a beast with like 23 billboard hot 1hunna number 1s and doesn't have a distinct style. He needs to make music to surprise his fans like that's Timbaland!?

What Max Martin does isn't all that surprising. He's a great hitmaker, but comparing Max Martin to Timbaland is like comparing Dr. Luke to Dr. Dre and StarGate to The Neptunes. What I mean by that is that you have guys like Martin, Dr. Luke, and StarGate who produced big hits, but can't step into the realm of a Timbaland, Dre, or Neptunes and do what they do. I mean Tim can go and produce Pop albums with Justin Timberlake that top the charts, but Max Martin has yet to produce multiple albums with R&B singers and rappers. Tim even broke a group like OneRepublic.

True but their job is to make hits.

Every producer has their run. Timbo is running the music on Empire. Rza doing scores for films. Producers move on B
