That First Timberlake album was fire. That Magna Carta was fukking horrible, and only sold cuz of the Samsung deal. The second Timberlake album was two good songs and a bunch of throwaways.

The Sorry Not Sorry beat he gave Tiller was OK, but other than that I can't remember the last Non-JT project he worked on that was fire.

MCHG sold 1 million copies without the free Samsung download. There were some bangers on MCHG. IMO, Jay Z's flow and some of the lyrics brought MCHG down. "Tom Ford", "Part II", "Jay Z Blue" (especially the last part of the song), "Picasso Baby", and "Heaven" are dope. In terms of 20/20 Experience Pt. 2, "Cabaret" and "You Got It On" and maybe "Electric Lady" are what I'd consider keepers.

Timbaland is my favorite producer. My research so far leads me to believe his decline can be traced to these steps

1. In 1999, with the release of Missy's Da real World album, he forced himself to change his style due to all the beat biters. He still had a gang of hits but the flexibility of the 'double time' style was gone and his style was simplified

2. He started using Open Labs Neko/Miko Vst keyboard instead of his trusty ASR-10 (and to a lesser extent, Triton). Those vst sounds are garbage and everybody has easy access to the same sounds. Again, simplifying himself.

3. He stopped using his goto Engineer Jimmy "Senator Jimmy D" Douglass sometime after FutreSex/LoveSounds. The same Engineer he's been working with since he was a ghost producer for jodeci.

4. Lastly, but most importantly, he stopped trying to innovate. I was listening to some of the stuff he was previewing from his production camp about a year ago on ig. The whole shyt was sounding like some wanna be yeezus shyt (tape distorted, pitched 808 kicks). :snoop:

When you're as dope as timbaland is i don't think you can truly fall off. When you're as hot and innovative as timbaland was, and your new ideas are being stifled by a music industry that refuses to take chances, you CAN get it in your head that it's best to try to run with the pack instead of trying to lead the pack

the 2 & 3 are on point :wow:

Milli is kinda dope though

If Timbaland has fallen off (if you're arguing that he he has done anything of note since Futuresex/Lovesounds), it speaks volumes of the caliber of producer that he is. I mean people overlook the run he had in 2013. Timbaland's 2013 would've been a career peak for most producers. "Suit & Tie" and "Mirrors" were big songs. The 20/20 Experience was the biggest album of that year in a year filled with commercial heavy hitters. Then you had Magna Carta Holy Grail, which was another blockbuster. Then there was the second installment of 20/20. Capping off Tim's 2013 was Beyonce's surprise album, which also featured his production. Hearing what Timbaland did on the production (along with J-Roc) on songs like "Don't Hold The Wall" (the crickets returned and that beat switch :whew:), "Strawberry Bubblegum", the second half of "Mirrors", "Spaceship Coup", "That Girl" was crazy. That's not even counting "Cabaret" and "You Got It On" from the second part of 20/20, Beyonce's "Rocket", and some of the production on MCHG. His run even extended into 2014 with his work on Michael Jackson's posthumous Xscape.

thank you.

Yeah, I get that the music for Empire is underwhelming. I even concede that the stuff he's released from Tink so far has been sub-par. His own solo music is the same. I'm still puzzled as to why he hasn't put out "UFO" featuring Andre 3000. Still, I'm interested in hearing what he has on the horizon. This Opera Noir project that he's been teasing seems promising. It was supposed to be the music for Empire, but Timbaland told Lee Daniels that he was keeping that for his own series.
