Running on pavement, particularly with shytty shoes, will give you shin splints. Ideally you want to run barefoot (no I'm not joking) somewhere grassy if possible - if not, at least get proper running shoes.

Not necessarily true.

Doing too much too fast will give you shin splints. I've seen too many people run out and get five finger vibrams and not get any faster or running any more enjoyable.

Proper shoes. If you have been running in tennis shoes your entire life, suddenly changing to a very minimalist shoe or straight to barefoot is going to be painful and cause injuries.

Go with these for transitioning. And that's why I asked you specific questions like Height, weight and experience. This will dictate how much you should be doing.

You got to take it slow. Your weight alone is a lot to be putting on your knees and joints especially over distance. How many miles were you getting up to on the treadmill?

With running there is no much misinformation out there simply because people don't like to do it. It's boring and taxing. If I told you I ran 12 miles this morning you'd hit me with the :why: face. I always tell people to apply the same mentality to weight training they do to running, which is a slow progression.

Honestly I didn't have that problem, switched from running in loads of different shoes/boots straight to barefoot and had no problems injury wise. :manny:

Definitely need proper running shoes though.
