Took my car to the dealership cause the engine was making noise. They said it was a $2500 repair just for that issue not to mention other things they found. Was looking at almost 5k in repairs.

Told them to drop it off the lift and I’ll take it somewhere else.

Local mechanic fixed the major issue and one of my struts for $1300 parts included.

Never let the dealership do repairs unless it’s under warranty. They fukk you

What kind of car was it... What was the repair?

I thought this thread would be a good idea because lot of nikkas don't be fukking with the Showroom or whatever the shyt called. Also because I wanna know if anyone has ever driven on a bad Catalytic Converter? :russ: I think mine is bad but don't want to replace it because the shyt is dumb expensive to do. I get mixed messages when searching how long you can drive on a bad one. Anyone dealt with this?

I'm pretty good with cars, so I can help with some shyt ya'll might be going through with your whips as well.

What car is it? One way to check if it's the A/F sensor or O² sensor is to use a scan tool to check the sensor functionality via the data list -- in other words, do they fluctuate frequently like they should (the sensor before the Catalytic Converter should switch faster and a lot more frequently than the sensor after the converter; if one sensor is slow or not switching as frequently as it should according to the PCM, it'll throw a P0420 code. Also -- check that you don't have an exhaust pipe leak around the sensors or the Catalytic converter, that could cause it as well.

If the Cat is bad -- your gas mileage will get significantly worse and engine performance will get worse as well.

What the fukk you expect when you let @Obreh Winfrey and @Lord Beerus bang on your motor for a 6 pack of Miller high life and a carton of Newports.

If nikkas would put the same energy they expend searching for a good barber, or throat goat like they do a mechanic, then they wouldn't be getting got by these greased up charlatans waiting on licks to come walking in with easily amended motor issues.

I just bought one, should be here today. My neighbor ran his on it and it’s the grille shutter. Looked it up and I can probably replace it myself but will have someone take a look first to see if it can be repaired or not.

Usually on those if the shutter isn't physically damaged the electronics that control the shutter have failed; the computer commanded the shutter to open a certain amount and it either stayed closed or didn't open to the amount it requested. Also -- check for a broken wire or damaged connector on the shutter, they do get screwed up from time to time. You can run a functional test on it with a scan tool or with a test light to see if the shutter will open or close.

Edit: it's a decent amount of work to replace an active grill shutter, and they typically aren't cheap. I'd definitely try to access the connector to test and do a visual inspection before dropping a few Benjamin's on the part.

It was a nicca's 1st car and first real issue (aside from an accident where I just went thru the other person's insurance on some body repair shyt) :hubie:

My lesson been learned folk. Just giving cuz my catalytic converter experience to show....it could be something else.

What yr is your car? You can drive them old shyts hella long. The only issue is the state u live in might want a smog check.

If thats the case, put spark plug spacers between the oxygen sensor and the cat and it will trick the smog computer into passing

You have 2 sensors...
Pre and post cat on OBD2 cars.

The first one gives your cpu reading of the efficiency of your A/F ratio.

The downstream/post one sends the efficiency of your cat data to the CPU.

Your code reader will show which o2 sensor is reading out of limits or tolerance.

A bad cat means absolutely nothing.

You just gon stank.

If it's clogged or melted however you have bad backpressure or fire.
Yeah was gonna mention his gas mileage gonna be trash eventually the ECU is just gonna run rich and dump a bunch of fuel then the spark plugs gonna get carbon fouled too it'll take a few thousand miles but eventually it'll start affecting other components if you don't keep track of it.
That's funny.

My pops was a truck driver and he showed me how to work on engines and brakes, so when I went to college my homegirl friend needed her brakes fixed and she was broke and she asked me could I help her. She was a nice look chick and I was like yeah no problem, we went to autozone and told her what I needed and she bought the stuff for me and I fixed her brakes.

She said she would give me some money, and I turned down the money and told her just to get me some WaffleHouse. I fixed her brakes and she got me Wafflehouse and little did I know that fixing her brakes turned my homgirls girlfriend into my 1 year fukk buddy lol. My homegirl was like how you change my friend brakes and now yall are having sex lol
Beating the brakes off that thang:myman:
What's the best bang for buck to get tighter turns at faster speeds.
Coilovers and performance tires, depends on the vehicle
