•Mahomes is #1 but he's in danger of losing that default position.
He's no longer the only active guy to play in multiple Super Bowls. Lamar has been the best player in football for two consecutive seasons, Allen and Burrow were better last season. He no longer has the best team. And the stench of him playing poorly in the Super Bowl, is not gonna disappear, since its now occurred multiple times.
I still default to him as #1---->going into
this year. But he has to restate his case with a phenomenal year. He still #1 because he's still the greatest QB of his era, to date. But there's an argument that we may have already seen the best of Mahomes.
He's going into Y9, does anyone here remember Brett Favre? In his first 8 seasons, he went to two Super Bowls, won 1, was a 3x MVP, 3x 1st Team All-Pro, led The League in a passing stat 6x, and was widely regarded as the greatest thing alive, for multiple years running...
Favre's Y8 was '98; Pat's was '24. From '99 on, Favre played another 12 years, and was never the same player he was in his first 8 years. Still had success and great moments, but was never the same player.
The Favre Watch is on the table for Mahomes. He's getting really close to that, was awesome first 8 years, never the same after, line.
But for now he's still #1.
•I'm a Burrow fan, and while I generally think he, Lamar, and Allen are interchangeable, you can't currently put him higher than 4th. That's a significant error.
I personally think Lamar is the best quarterback in football, purely from a, who has had the best seasons most recently. He's been the best player in two consecutive regular seasons. So I'd have him #2, but bringing up his playoff games is fair, and I'm not tripping if someone puts Allen at 2.
But Burrow gotta be 4!
•I'm a Skins fan but Jayden at 5 is too reactionary. And let's just be honest here, #5 is fluid and the gap from 4 to 5, QB-to-QB, is a pretty wide one. The NFL has a Big 4 QB room right now. The 5th best guy could be anyone, and whoever the 5th best guy is, isn't super close to the 4th best guy.
If you want Hurts at #5, that's certainly arguable given his 3-year run. But you could easily make the argument he's not the 5th best QB. I like Goff and Baker more than most guys, but I probably wouldn't have either over Hurts right now.
My list going into this season would be:
1. Mahomes
2. Lamar
3. Allen
4. Burrow
5. Hurts
6. Padford
7. Goff
8. Baker
9. Daniels
10. Herbert
#9 and 10 are fluid too. I could make arguments for Purdy, CJ, Love, or Dak at those spots.
