You said it and you’re wrong. :heh:
Fair enough dude, could easily be a function of me relating more towards British culture (even though I didn't grow up there) more than American.

It's just that for me when I see gun violence in Top Boy, knowing how it is virtually impossible to get a gun in the UK, it really strikes me. The stakes are raised and everytime I see a gun in the show, never mind it being fired, it strikes me.

There was even a scene where Sully tells a rapper going on about automatic rifles and shyt that he (Sully himself) has never seen an AK in real life, despite all the dirty shyt he has been doing. The realism just takes it for me

The other thing about the season.

Jamie was not as tough a guy as he try to act like. When he was dealing with Dushane he acted tough and honestly he was tough indeed. He seemed confident ,smart, ruthless yet methodical. Especially how he did the Turks.

But I was really disappointed by how he crawled back into his shell when Modi came out. At that point he was in a position of power. The crew was making money and they were all behind him. He had the leverage to take out Modi and I doubt anybody would have retaliated since he was providing the goods.

Modi was just your typical loudmouth arrogant dude. He didn't strike me as a smart Mastermind. Jamie could have outsmarted him and taking them out easily. The one I would have been worried about if I was Jamie was actually Jermaine (Sully's cousin who Sully had kidnapped and who broke Modi out of jail). He's got a vicious crew working for him but they don't work for Modi. They only answer to him. Plus he has that cousin of his who solid did not want no part of from season 2 when he kidnapped Jermaine.
Agreed. Kit would have been down as hes a real one but Jamie just backed down.
Also disappointing was how easily and nice and neat summerhouse wrapped up that issue with Sugar (lazy). Don't find Dushane to be a likeable character, surprised most his crew fukk with him at all, selfish mf just giving orders smh.
But that said, I like the series and especially looking forward to where they pick up with the season ending cliffhangers (that was well written imo).

Sorry, I disagree. I watched The Wire once. It was brilliant but I would not watch it again.

Truth is, every brilliant gangster show owes something to The Sopranos. Top Boy and The Wire are "kind of" the same show but Top Boy takes it for me. Just my opinion though, everyone is entitled to theirs. The Wire was ground breaking so I am not trying to take from it but Top Boy for me is a step up.

*Edit* I quoted the wrong post originally
Breh, I love Top Boy. It feels like less of a TV show than The Wire. It’s more gritty feels realistic and really takes you into the culture of the London streets.

Characters like Brother Mouzone (NOI hit man in 2000’s Baltimore?), Kima surviving that shoot out, Chris and Snoop having 50+ bodies in boarded up houses by themselves, Marlo bossing nikkas at them meetings and not being dealt with, made The Wire more unrealistic.

But it ain’t better than The Wire. Top Boy whether it’s by purpose or not borrows from The Wire with certain scenes and characters. The Wire gives you the police side and the street side. The Wire also by season breaks down the different layers to everything. The ghetto, the cops, the docks, the youth and educational system, the courts and legal system, the politics and politicians, the media and journalism/newspapers.

Nah bro chill.

Bro, I'm very chill

The bold I will give to you.

There was not a single murder in The Wire that went uninvestigated. Whereas Spranos , Top Boy etc. Just brushes over a lot. Whereas in The Wire there were consequences, that we saw as an audience, to every killing.

The realism in The Wire in the The Wire was second to none. I'm not disrespecting that show at all. Just saying I prefer Top Boy as a person just watching the show

Top Boy is great, don’t get me wrong. But it’s only like The Wire in the most rudimentary of levels. Top Boy does a great job of showing a crew and the neighborhood they run. The Wire takes a much more holistic view in showing both the crew as well as the cops and politicians. Did an amazing job at showing how inefficiencies and straight up bullshyt in each of those worlds has effects on the city. Then what they did with the schools in season 4 was straight brilliance. Best child acting/writing I’ve ever seen.

Dap. I'm in negative rep for speaking my mind too much so, unfortunately nothing more. You've reminded me of The Wire's scope. Wish I could rep but I can't.

I still like Top Boy more, but what you've said is brilliant, and, as much as we are on "other sides" of the fence, I would rep if I could.

As a dude who randomly spouts ridiculous shyt often, I find myself saying this a lot. “Where’s the feud, bruhv?”. And I used to jokingly say “you get me”, but now I say it all the time:snoop:.
I can’t get into this season but I’m trying. I feel like drake’s influence is a little too heavy, you get me? Lol
No Drake influence from what I've seen so far (ep.5). Not even a song

It's kind dope that some of these guys weren't actors and you can't tell for the most part.

Never knew Sully was actually a rapper. Most American rappers i know who have played in movies suck at acting and it tends to ruin shows and movies for me when they are in them. With a few exceptions of course. Ludacris did well in a few spots. LL still barely average. Will Smith is probably the best.

But the producers for this show did a great job masking those acting for the first time's flaws and weaknesses.
"People Do Nothinhg" watch it if you can. It's a comedy but all those dudes were living that life for real. I didn't find out until after I watched the last season.

I agree with you. :yeshrug:

I'd take The Wire if it was only about Barksdale/Stansfield crews. I honestly didn't care for the cops, docks, newspapers, etc.

but you’re not “allowed” to say that :russ: but even on just the street level ‘the wire’ still runs circles around ‘top boy’...but I feel you... @ times I only wanted the street shyt...it just simply wouldn’t be the same show (or necessarily better tho) w/o them incorporating those other avenues...only one I thought was a horrible waste of time was the newspaper angle

Top boy is top 10 of all time..season 3 was simply amazing but lets not get stupid..top boy better than the wire? :stopitslime:First off, wait until the series is over completely before making that call and 2nd, top boy will NEVER be discussed to such a critical level that the wire is discussed on its youtube clips..the wire was a complex and deep show..top boy is amazing but the wire has too much depth..

I think thats why Gomorrah is such a success,it focuses solely on the street shyt instead of mixing the politics and police story lines in like suburrah and the wire..
