"The Documentary debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling 586,000 units in the first week. The Recording Industry Association of America certified the album two times platinum in March 2005 and it sold over five million copies worldwide. "

:mjpls:

get this fukk ass list outta here
Dog, you cant read. Game's album only sold 2 mill in the U.S. This Soundscan list counts how many albums were sold in America. They dont count whats sold in Italy, Germany and other countries.

So if you album sold 1 mill in the U.S. but it sold an extra 20 mill copies outside the U.S. it will not be on this list.

Johanesburg; Coral Way (FL)
there are Approx. 1.7 million Puff Daddy and the Family albums still in stores waiting to be bought:wow:
About 3 million Big Willie Styles left :krs:
Not really. Soundscan is by no means comprehensive. It only counts stores that volunteer the information and have a point of sale inventory system. To compensate for not counting everything, they assign some weights to stores that are in their database so some store sales might be counted up to 10 times i.e for that particular store that reports to it, they have estimated that there are 9 similar stores out there but those 9 stores don't report to them.
Shipments are more important because that's an official accounting entry. However, labels don't always certify shipments with RIAA because it costs money and effort to do so and it doesn't bring in anything other than some feeling of achievement and stuff that u can hang on the wall.

I wouldnt say being white is the way to sell cause 75% of those albums are not by white people.

Id say being associated with dre is a huge thing

BP3 was Jay's commercial peak breh, Empire State of mind charted higher than HKL, Run this town was arguably more popular as well, just that by the time BP3 came out, sales were already declining.

In terms of album sales (which is what this thread is about) how can BP3 be Jay-Z's commercial peak? HKL sold more than what twice BP3 did I know things are different now with sales being lower and artist's like Jay having lots outside ventures. However, if we are to say that the biggest point in an artist's career is when they had their highest selling album then that would HKL for Jay-Z.

Comparing the chart position of a single released in 1998 with one released in 2009 is a bit pointless, as back then a hot single actually pushed the sales of the album more. Most of those people who purchased Empire State of Mind and Run This Town didn't buy the album. Whereas back then many would have heard HKL the single and on the back of that bought the album and not bothered with purchasing the single.
