Yeah 3.5 is way generous as well. KC was bad. This shyt boring.

I'm a massive Jay fan. Everything on the album is weak. The beats are boring, he's not spitting either. It's not a good effort from him.
You, entertainment weekly, Earl Sweatshirt and 2 hipster magazines are in agreement then :manny:

Most people seem to think that it's good not great, 3 to 4 mics, hiphop heads leaning towards 4 and non-hiphop towards 3.

What you gonna do everyone has their opinion.

I'm a jay-z fan BUT

I thought it was a nice 4 mic album.

:aicmon: The album is on pace to do over half a mill the 1st week after Samsung gave away a million copies and it was on the Internet for anyone to get it days before it was released, yet the haters are still trying to convince themselves and others that it's a terrible album that no one likes.

i'm not a camel stan

but I must admit...this album is complete a$$. At first, I thought it would be just regular a$$. But then I really gave it a spin, a woooowweeeeeee....this joint is blue ivy's cheeks after a bottle of puree'd spinach a$$.

The track with Ross and the joint with Nas is semi-decent tracks...the rest is just trash dog. It's not yeezus bad, but its down there.

dude should have retired after the black album.

I haven't rocked with Jay since the first Blueprint album. The fascination has been gone since.

I mean... I have a perfectly good pair of ears so I don't need anyone to vindicate my opinion. But you cannot pretend there's not a lot of people who thinks this album is wack.

But we can play the "thinks its wack/good" game.

HudMo think it's wack.
Bloody dikksucking Toure thinks it's wack.
RR gave it a lukewarm review.
THIS shyt LIGHT - thinks it's wack.
These guys think it's wack, they just regular blogging nikkas - The One Where I Write About Magna Carta Holy Grail | Very Smart Brothas Why I Just Can't Get Into Magna Carta...Holy Grail - Entertainment & Culture - EBONY
Rolling Stone thinks it's wack.
Several respected magazines and newspapers have given it average reviews at best. From the New York Times and Chi Tribune to UK papers.

THE shyt IS WACK.

I'm a big Jay fan. I saw him perform with JT yesterday. The new songs sounded wack.

The shyt is sitting on 57 on Metacritic and 5.8 on user reviews.

Maybe you and some of your loser buddies like it. But I expect better from Jay-Z. The beats are largely uninspired and the raps are boring.

Take your L and keep it moving fakkit

Ol thinking Britney Spears drops classic because of sales ass nikka
So you really need me to break down the differences between Vanilla Ice selling records in 1990 to Jay Z selling records in 2013? You could never give me an L you stupid motherfukker. The only thing that you can do as far as I'm concerned is listen and learn.

I never said that sales=quality. I said that album isn't being received as badly a the haters are trying to convince people to believe.

I don't know since when 3/5 became garbage, which is what most non-hiphop reviewers gave it. It's 57 on metacritic as in 10 points lower than BP3 and KC, which makes no sense. It's heavily dragged down by entertainment weekly and these people giving it 1/5, recall that entertainment weekly gave BP3 like 4.5/5 and the fact that most hiphop reviews are excluded from Metacritic.

Me my loser friends? Why are you mad doggy? Most rappers who talked about it on twitter (besides some white dj and Earl), all hiphop sites gave it good reviews even the awards the fukkheads on here tried to say where shytting on it (Pitchfork, Rollingstones and Rapreviews) gave it 3/5, if that's garbage then what's 4/5, aight? what's 'good' then? 5/5?

Unlike you, me and my "loser" friends at least read the reviews to evaluate if it does the album any justice.
Talking about samsung or Jay-z being a corporate thug and all that shyt as a negative factor to the album, automatically excludes the relevancy of the review.
Having a Jay-z album and not talking about emceeing, automatically kills the relevancy. No matter if it's Entertainment weekly's 1/5 or USATODAY's 5/5.

The important thing is that the fans fukk with it, the streets, hiphop community, twitter was buzzin for a week straight, every club I went to before it even dropped was playing the album as if it was crazy as fukk and people went. And I predict that 50% of the people at Yankee stadium will know 50% of the bars to the album.

The same people hating on this joint

Are hating on Magna Carta Holy Grail.

Why? Cause it doesn't have a commercial sound, not a boring conservative style about politics, crime and whatever non-entertaining subject that entertains people and cause they are having fun, rapping about fun shyt. But also deeper meanings in this fun shyt, deeper meanings these people don't care about or even care to review or probably even examine for that matter.

Let's not act like cacs weren't writing articles about how Jay and Kanye were shytting on their fans, not showing passion for the recession and all these type of things for their #Blackexcellence campaign.

:beli: Jay-Z is an A-B student who just dropped a C album. For him, that's garbage. He has at least 6 albums that are better. There's so much good music in the world, fukk.. Stevie Wonder alone has AT LEAST 6 brilliant albums. I'm going to give any C grade album the time of day when I realise that it is weak.

Hudson Mohawke is a respected producer, he worked on Yeezus - one of the few in the industry to say how it is.

A 3*star hotel is aight. Nothing to be proud of. And this is Jay-Z, he has at least 5, four to five star albums. This..... is not it.

MC'ing... was this hot to you?

Blue told me remind you nikkas
fukk that shyt y’all talking bout
I'm the nikka
Caught up in all these lights and cameras
But look what that shyt did to Hammer

It ain't hard to tell, I'm the new Jean Michel
Surrounded by Warhols, my whole team ball
Twin Bugattis outside the Art Basel
I just wanna live life colossal
Leonardo Da Vinci flows
Riccardo Tisci Givenchy clothes
See me throning at the Met

Paris where we been, pard' my Parisian
It's Hov time in no time, it's fukk all y'all season
Piss Bordeaux and Burgundies, flush out a Riesling
When Hov's out, them hoes out, y'all put y'all weaves in
Clap for a nikka with his rapping ass
Blow a stack for your nikkas with your trapping ass
Spent all my euros on tuxes and weird clothes
I party with weirdoes, yeah Hov, yeah Hov

The rhymes aren't dope...

I'm a 23 year-old Jay-Z stan. I've seen him live many times. I've combed through all his albums. I'm also pretty intelligent and a massive music head... I know BS when I hear it. This shyt light.

I saw him perform fukking yesterday. The songs that got the biggest reaction was PSA, You Don't Know, Heart of the City... he rapped Pimp C's verse from Big Pimpin - the slightly older cats knew that shyt verbatim.

I'm a grown ass man. The streets/twitter/clubs don't tell me what's hot. I used to dagger bytches to Lollipop... everybody went wild.. those songs aren't dope man. Nothing on MCHG is as good as Pop That for that crowd anyway.

JAY Z, Kanye West - Otis ft. Otis Redding - YouTube

Are hating on Magna Carta Holy Grail.

What are you talking about? WTT got solid reviews across the board. Stop making shyt up.

People liked Otis and the video as soon as it dropped. Otis had every rapper running to make a remix.

MCHG is pretty fukking commercial. The opener sounds like a Timberlake song. Tom Ford is begging to be played in the club. There's not many surprises, the beats are largely generic mayne.

Besides the Timberlake joint, I can't see any song playing on radio vs BP3 where it was about 1 song that couldn't be played on radio.
It would be interesting to hear Tom Ford on radio with the intro "clap for a nikka with his rappin ass, blow a stack for your nikkas with your trappin ass x2, Tom Ford, Tom Ford Tom Ford". Whole 2nd verse have a "nikka" ad-lib after every bar.

And I was not talking about reviews, I was talking about articles but there is some reviews that tackle what they talked about in the articles as well.

WTT
2/5
Album: Watch The Throne, Watch the Throne (Mercury) - Reviews - Music - The Independent

Elsewhere, the main interests are, predictably, careerism and vulgar excess, with the ritual litany of Rolex, Maybach and Gucci now joined by Basquiat and Warhol

Jay-Z and Kanye West, 'Watch the Throne' (Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam/Roc Nation) | SPIN
3/5 (or what you call it, trash rating was it?)
Quick litmus test: Does the phrase "I'm planking on a million," which spills joyously from the lips of one Shawn Carter, fill you with revulsion? (And is it Aw Geez Dad Please Shut Up revulsion or fukk You Scrooge McDuck revulsion?) To what degree can you stomach incessant chatter about cars, (terrible) sports franchises, priceless works of art apparently mounted over toilets, gold bottles, sheepskin coats, Paris boutiques. Could the timing be any worse? Does the timing matter? Can you blame two of the least relatable people on planet earth for not being particularly relatable, of being oblivious to all the other shyt clogging up your Twitter feed right now? Would We Are Not Human Beings have been a better title? Ready to Die of Old Age in Unimaginable Comfort?

I can't find all the articles now since they are not collected anywhere, the point is every negative article was about the black excellence thing.
The negative reviews gave it 3/5 or 3.5/5, add the samsung and corporate talk it would've been 2.5 and 3 like MCHG for very stupid reasons and not even talking/understanding the dope things about the albums. But yes a lot more reviewers thought that it was dope than MCHG.
