Jay-z is a great rapper and a great mogul and he's still one of the most relevant rappers.

We discuss him as a rapper and a mogul, that's why he's more discussed than for example Puff. 98% of discussions about Jay is cause he's a superstar and legendary hiphop artist. Birdman is wack as fukk, Puff is wack as fukk, Master P had 1 or 2 albums but basically meh, J Prince did not rap and on.

We discuss 50 cause he's a rapper, we discuss Jay cause he's a rapper, and surprise but we are hiphop heads who listen to rap music.

Do nikkas still use common sense or what?
Edit I should've noticed that common sense would be non-existent if I thought twice about who the OP was.

Jay isn't more popular than puffy. He sold more records but they are equally just as popular and puff has been around longer.

I think jay z slightly edges ice cube in popularity but they have similar achievement a businessmen outside of music.

He is not more popular than lil Wayne. Wayne has been around just as long, sold millions of records. Is still currently a member of one of the last hip hop dynasties from the 90s and is recon fixed from Obama down to nikkas in the barber shop as that nikka in hip hop.

and furthermore, your thread asked why people respect jay-z's business acumen more, did it not, so sit here and list 3 things lil wayne has done business wise that has been more notable or advanced than anything jay-z has ever done. I'll wait.

I'll put it like this:You can compare Jay-Z to Jordan in terms of being relevant in an area where being young is championed. The reason is because of branding. people still run out and buy Jordans even though he retired 10 years ago. He has stayed relevant because he is a brand and he uses his money and marketing to stay in the mix. Same with Jay-Z

People don't run out and buy roca anything anymore breh

By the way, salute everyone in the read discussing and disagreeing gracefully without the insults

But yeah, roca.. Fella, wear.. The brand is non existent. Magic Johnson is ten times the businessman mj is

I think the Hov obsession is exaggerated an almost unessacery is others given their just due

Rap-a-lot & Cashmoney are still alive and well. The CEOs of each label are still very active in the music industry? No, did I miss something? Puffy is still making business moves and creating ventures.

I just don't see the same fascination with the other moguls. I'm not stanning I actually want to discuss it.

The other "moguls" weren't rappers though. They were businessmen who ran labels. Jay was just a rapper who became an exec and still raps.

He has been active and relevant since 1997. He released several solo albums and is till very popular today

Its called PR my friend. Jay has mastered it. Think about it. You have people actually believing he is friends withe president. People bring up he is married to Beyonce. Yet they ignore like you said he is unable to break or scout a successful artist. Fully own or atleast be a half owner of anything ( to my knowledge). Just think about how he angled the nets thing, idiots actually he owned the team only because he said so.

At this point Jay has been around to long to discredit. I agree Puff has done more but most want to relate to the false street element Jay has. Its life.

That's real

And not discredit him as an artist, he makes great music but when you analyze these credentials allot of them have been done.

I thought it was big deal when Master P actually played in the NBA on a temp contract.

Usher did invest in the Cavs, much like the nets a historic lowly franchise. One an accomplishment but it's rarely mentioned like the nets move lol

Ice cube can arguably be the greatest rapper of all time. He's influenced countless MCs from Kendrick Lamar to Lil Jon and made his way into house holds across the nation and around the world with his movies

It might be his wife and PR team. The obsession with him is weird at times on the coli. I think if he read some of this shyt he would be weirded out by it

People should really look into magic Johnson's businesses ventures too, he kills MJ!

And if you guys want to talk money

There is said to be an unofficial competition between all the black moguls in the rap game. It's a race to a billion, who will get it first

Dr.Dre
Jay-Z
50
Ice Cube
Puff daddy
Brian & slim Williams
Percy Miller

I'm willing to bet you one of the guys you least expect it from reach the Billie for Shawn

He still has yet to run a successful rap label! That has to eat at him internally

He hides his loses well. Think the "J hotels", That jay-z blue truck he was going to come out with. His tenure at Def Jam etc..... People tend to only look at his wins and forget he has taken heavy loses. If you look at Roc Nation as a whole its really nothing to be proud off. He basically signed a 360 deal with Live Nation which to mean seems like a step back especially with the clout everyone claims he has.

And I don't hate Jay. I respect that he mastered the PR game. He is a good rapper. But not the business men his fans would allow you to believe.

Your dead on with the PR team. Remember when people really thought he was retiring?

Seriously though, I would love to see him invest more time in breaking J.Cole. There is an opportunity there and it seems like it's going to be squandered.

If P still has it in him, Fat Trel and Alley Boy will see some mainstream success this year.

Puffy can't seem to market French Montana and had been struggling to find a go to artist for years

I'm really surprised at how much of a foundation cashmoney has built. I never thought there run would rival and exceed what seem to be stronger comp in: Ruff Ryder's, Roc-a-fella, No Limit, Rap-a-lot and even Death Row
