She got sued for 5 million for not crediting her writers on Miseducation..

And I really only hear her being touted as a rapper online..shes primarily a singer, imo

Here we go again with this she got sued shyt. I hate when dudes repeat this and show they clearly didnt follow the whole story.

She got sued because they claimed she did not give production credit. It was the new ark production team. Also said they wrote some hooks. This is hip hop i dont care if someone wrote a hook as long as it aint an entire rap.

50 wrote hooks for game and game def aint a fraud as an emcee. Lauryn put executive produced by lauryn hill and that is why they went after her. Which is hilarious in hindsight because alot of rappers put executive producer on their album.

Irony is she actually credited all of them in the album thank yous but as always what i learned from elders growing up...if u wanna look at the reason for any problem in life....money is the answer. She got sued because they feel they were not paid the right way.

Reaearch shyt before you talk breh. I know it was not alot of rapping on the album but the little that there was...u noticed they never said i wrote such and such rap for her? Cause they are a band dealing with production. .

IIRC their claims were contributions to 5 or 6 songs (which is far from uncommon) and doing the primary work on two songs. That's still Lauryn writing the majority of the album. Furthermore she primarily rapped on most of the Fugee albums and even in Miseducation when she did rap they were very strong. It's the other way around, only online do people wanna low key discredit her as a lyricist.

I find it weird that people always want to downplay Lauryn on the mic, even if it's in a complimentary way.

Foxy brown has not released an album in about 16 years...

They bring up the lack of longevity with lauryn which is true but what female rappers have that? Missy and mc lyte are literally the only female rappers with more than 6 albums.

This aint new territory. Which is why i believe we gotta judge female emcees differently since so few of them have longevity.

Even a stan like me can admit the blunted on reality album..was wack as hell lol...but it still has her rapping....dudes just always completely ignore the score album.

But then bring up aquemi and atliens for andre.. :snoop:

She even had a rap verse on that nina simone teibute soundtrack last year...verse was alright :manny: and the lines she had init sound like vintage lauryn...yet dudes talking about clef ghostwrote all these lines for her

ehhhh, this interview just solidifies that its impossible to name a top 3.

And, I get what she saying. Not mad at it really.

But, Lauryn is the best female rapper ever.

Lauryn Hill isn't a rapper...she's an amazing singer who can rap well.

It's the same way people don't consider guys like Black Milk as rappers because their other talent is at an elite level
Quite the opposite...she's a REALLY good rapper that can also sing. She's like the female Drake but MUCH better at both! :martin:

Lauryrn Hill did both exceptionally well..Best female rapper and singer of our time is Lauryn Hill..nobody she named comes close to touchin Lauryn with the pen..Trina don't understand rap..with her logic Krs1 wouldnt be considered a rapper..Trina not too smart

KRS has classic rap songs,Lauren Hill doesn't:jbhmm:

Matter of fact while yall talkin shyt,Lauren Hill doesn't even have a rap verse as iconic, impactful and classic as this one:banderas:

They forgot about Salt In Pepa,at least they the first I remember bringing the sex appeal for real.

Shoutout to Oaktown 357 too,i don't fuk with female hiphop for real but this one right here:mjcry:

Yeah, I remember those arguements and I changed my views since then.

IMO, Stack the greatest non ghostwritten verses by any female MC then decide who's in the convo. If Lauren's in than she's in.

I've gotten over this whole great rapper but not enough solo album material rule in general. It's dumb to punish great rappers like Jay Elec.

Who said anything about punishing them? The problem is you nikkas rewarding them a kings ransom for the lack of work:scust:

Not too many females with rap verses like theses..

Yo, there's a war in the mind, over territory
For the dominion
Who will dominate the opinion
Skisms and isms, keepin' us in forms of religion
Conformin' our vision
To the world churches decision
Trapped in a section
Submitted to committee election
Moral infection
Epidemic lies and deception
Insurrection
Of the highest possible order
Destortin' our tape recorders
From hearin' like under water
Beyond the borders
Fond of sin and disorder
Bound by the strategy
It's systematic depravity
Heavy as gravity
Head first in the cavity
Without a bottom
A faith, worse than Saddam
Once got him
Drunk of the spirits
Truth comes, we can't hear it
When you've been, programmed to fear it
I had a vision
I was fallin' in indecision
Apollin', callin' religion
Some program on television
How can dominant wisdom
Be recognized in the system
Of Anti-Christ, the majority rules
Intelligent fools
PhD's in illusion
Masters of mass confusion
Bacholors in past illusion
Now who you choosin'
The head or the tail
The bloodshed of male
More confidence in the tale
Conference is in Yale
Discussin' doctrines of Baal
Causin' people to fail
Keepin' the third in jail
His word is nale
Everything to the tree
Severing all of me from all that I used to be
Formless and void
Totally paranoid
Enjoy darkness as the Lord
Keepin' me from the sword
Block for mercy
Bitter than purgatory
Hungry and thirsty
For good meat we would eat
And still, dined at the table of deceit
How incomplete
From confrontation to retreat
We prolong the true enemy’s defeat
Death to the ascendancy
Causin' desperation to get the best of me
Punishment 'til there was nothing left of me
Realizin' the unescapable death of me
No options in the valley of decision
The only doctrine, supernatural circumcision
Inwardly, only water can purge the heart
From words that fiery darts
Thrown by the workers of the arts
Iniquity, shapen in
There're no escapin' when
You're whole philosophy is paper thin
In vanity
The wide road is insanity
Could it be all of humanity
Picture that
Scripture that
The origin of a man's heart is black
How can we show up for
An invisible war
Preoccupied with a shadow, makin' love with a whore
Achin' in sores
Babylon, the great mystery
Mother of human history
System of social sorcery
Our present condition
Needs serious recognition
Where there's no repentance there can be no remission
And that sentence, more serious than Vietnam
The atom bomb is Saddam and Minister Farakkhan
What's goin' on, what's the priority to you
What authority do we do
When the majority hasn't a clue
We majored in curses
Search the chapters, check the verses
Recapture the land
Remove the mark from off of our hands
So we can stand
In agreement with his command
Everything else is damned
Let them what is understand
Everything else is damned, let them with ears understand

Classic Lauryn Hill you might not be familiar with
