Most people know not to drive in flood conditions.

Most locals been through a couple huricanes and there's some Katrina transplants here.

Most people that get caught slipping are out of towners here for their first storm.

Would the flood itselt destroy the engine?

If you're by the coast and salt water gets in then yea you're done.

If you're more inland then the engine can be salvaged if it's not running when it gets flooded. The interior would obviously be toast if it's over 4 feet

Edit: newer cars may be in trouble though with all the electronics

New Euro Model shows a maximum of 60" rain over the next 5-6 days according to that weather message board. SE Texas might become the Gulf of Mexico if that turns out to be true.
