for the elite schools finances are not the issue for poor kids, getting in is the issue. if they get in then by being poor to middle class their cost of attendance is covered.

FWIW the Attorney General of Connecticut (who happens to be Asian-American) is the main one up in the news blasting the Trump Administration for this and accusing him of using Asians as pawns.

Connecticut AG Blasts 'Offensive' Federal Lawsuit Accusing Yale Of Anti-White, -Asian Policy

The Connecticut AG is calling the U.S. Department of Justice lawsuit against Yale's alleged discrimination against white and Asian-American people “politically motivated,” “offensive” and a “complete overreach.”

On Thursday, Oct. 8, the U.S. Attorney’s Office filed a lawsuit against Yale University alleging its admission policies are racist for seeking to racially “balance” the university’s population. Many colleges and universities create diversity recruitment goals in an effort to bolster equity.

“The [Trump] Administration has fully embraced its racist mantle as the last gasp of this failed presidency,” said Connecticut Attorney General William Tong in a statement released shortly after the lawsuit was announced.

“The Department of Justice action deviates starkly from decades of well-established legal precedent and threatens to disrupt admissions practices at hundreds of universities nationwide.,” he said.


The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Yale's policy unfairly leaves white and Asian-American applicants at a disadvantage due to their races.

“Illegal race discrimination by colleges and universities must end,” said Assistant Attorney General Eric Dreiband for the Civil Rights Division. “This nation’s highest ideals include the notion that we are all equal under the law.”

Tong is an Asian-American and called the lawsuit "offensive." He said his office is exploring legal avenues to support Yale and its students.

In his statement, Tong said that diversity, equity, and inclusion matter and that the U.S. has failed to create an environment that fully embraces these ideals. The Yale University admission policy should be supported, Tong said, not targeted.

The timing of the lawsuit is suspect, Tong said, being so close to a national election.

“The timing and motivation behind this lawsuit are clear - to foment more hate and division on the eve of an election,” Tong said.

“It is shamefully ironic that this administration purportedly seeks to take up the cause of Asian-American students after spending months actively inciting violence and hate against the Asian-American community.”

Yeah, he finally really got in the news when he started the Harvard lawsuit after winning the anti-voting rights case. He's been active for 30+ years and more successful at what he does than anyone but he stayed in the shadows before.

Education has always been free. It's even easier with the internet.

Outside of majors where practical experience is necessary if you can't afford it - find another way. Paying thousands for a credential is a sucker's game if you're going to try and play unprepared.

There are so many colleges that offer cheap degrees you're better off doing that while educating YOURSELF, getting the credential, and getting into the workforce. Jobs out here paying 70K and all you need is intermediate level Microsoft Excel skills that can be learned in less than a week on Youtube.

The college game has been rigged since the government started guaranteeing loans, so anyone playing that game its on them.

W/O race based admissions and blind applications, you could probably get a system where it is based purely on ability and you'd force State schools and lower level institutions to actually be accountable to the kids.

Just eliminate it completely. find a way to anonymize the applicants into. And select purely on merit.
