My thing is, yes there are things that need to improve in the city. But DC is no different than any other major American city except for its federal status. Until you address the actual problems it’ll never change short of full blown ethnic cleansing/radical gentrification that kicks out the entire population outside of those with means. Then DC will just be surrounded by dangerous enclaves.

There’s definitely a two way street to this. To play devils advocate, there are Black residents that are tired of the so called YNs and to also be fair the city provides A LOT of programs and services for those at risk from free healthcare to free summer programs and of course Mayor Barry’s summer youth jobs program which has been a boon for the city’s teens for decades. So opportunities are there and some of these kids DO take this opportunities. The city is small, so while yall hear about how bad southside or uptown or Northeast is there’s so many brilliant young minds that do take advantage of the opportunities in the city and excel.

So to me, these are issues that the city’s residents alongside their representatives need to have a real dialogue about. Because these kids could be our little siblings or even our children. Sending them into the federal prison system should be the last resort. What can actually be done now that hasn’t been done to fix DC’s issues? That’s a more constructive discussion than everyone else not from here speculating or deciding for Washingtonians what should and shouldn’t be done. Yeah it’s yall nations capital, but it’s our home.

FBI director Kash Patel admits that the murder rate in America is on track to be the lowest in U.S. history, undercutting President Donald Trump’s depiction of major cities as crime-riddled hellscapes.

The president on Monday unveiled plans to deploy the National Guard and take over the Metropolitan Police in order to “rescue” Washington D.C. from what he said was an existence of “crime, bloodshed, bedlam and squalor”.

The move came despite the fact that violent offenses across all major categories are falling in the nation’s capital, raising questions about the president’s true motives for the crackdown, which he said could serve as a model for other cities.

In the middle of his hour-plus press conference, Trump’s own FBI director also partly contradicted Trump’s claim by boasting to reporters that “murder rates are plummeting.”

“We are now reporting that the murder rate is on track to be the lowest in US history - in modern recorded history - thanks to this team behind me and President Trump’s priorities,” Patel said as he stood alongside Trump, Attorney General Pam Bondi, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum.

As Trump spoke, MSNBC and CNN also displayed graphics of the latest falling crime rates to show that the dystopian image of D.C. depicted during Monday’s press conference is far cry from the reality most residents face in the district.

While public safety remains an ongoing challenge, particularly in low income neighborhoods, the latest figures show that homicides are down 12 percent this year compared to last year; assault with a dangerous weapon has fallen by 20 percent; burglaries are down 20 percent; and robberies are down by 30 percent.

Experts on authoritarianism have warned that Trump, who has previously deployed both the California National Guard as well as active-duty Marines to tackle protesters in Los Angeles, is trying to get Americans used to the idea of having federal troops on the ground in cities across the U.S.

This is an idea that has been touted several times before, both by the president and those in his orbit, such as Project 2025 architect Russell Vought, who now runs the White House Office of Budget Management.

In her first remarks since Trump’s announcement, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said the president’s actions were “unsettling and unprecedented, but I can’t say, given the rhetoric of the past, that we are totally surprised.”

She also warned that the plan could turn into a “disaster” if D.C. residents, some of whom are from communities that already distrust police, become more reluctant to report crimes or cooperate with authorities under a Trump takeover.

“I think I speak for all Americans - we don’t believe it’s legal to use the American military against American citizens on American soil,” the Democratic mayor added.

Democratic National Committee chair Ken Martin accused Trump of “once again playing political games using service members and federal law enforcement officials.”

“Donald Trump’s record as president is marked by gross abuses of power, and his latest move to supersede local law enforcement by deploying the National Guard to Washington, D.C. is no exception,” he said.

But Trump insisted he would “liberate” D.C, telling reporters: “You want to be able to leave your apartment or house where you live and feel safe and go into a store to buy a newspaper or buy something and you don’t have that now.

“The murder rate in Washington today is higher than that of Bogota, Colombia, Mexico City, some of the places that you hear about as being the worst places on earth. Much higher.”

Trump’s press conference took place after a photo surfaced last week of a former federal DOGE staffer who was violently bashed as part of an unarmed car jacking.

Over the weekend, he ordered more federal law enforcement agents to be deployed on city streets and called for children as young as 14 to be charged as adults.

But his push to “federalize DC” has prompted growing outrage, with about 150 people gathering near the White House on Monday to protest his latest attempt to assert control over the city.

I did my normal Saturday morning bike ride through the city and noticed NG's presence around the Mall and monuments. They got the short Hummer trucks parked at Union station. I got my Starbucks and took my normal break at the park in front of the White House and noticed you can no longer walk up to the White House fence (Pennsylvania Ave) Its usally where the Palestine protesters usually post up. The closest you can get is the park now. Most of the NG from those red states are siteseeing. There was one in full uniform at the Lincoln Memorial with his Canon camera around his neck taking pics. I took the metro last Wednesday and did notice NG waiting for the kids to get off at the Waterfront and Navy Yard:ufdup:
I noticed they locked down Layafette Park when I was there in the winter.

This is the top c00n comment of the week. The rest of y’all are on notice to step your c00ning game up.
DC already has every federal agency known to man with local police powers I remember getting a Speeding ticket from the Secret Service years ago.

When I was there last Park Police followed me two blocks to give me a warning.

I got a federal ticket from the Pentagon Police. DC is the most policed and surveilled area in the word. Maybe China is more surveilled but DC is completely covered.

I'd say the only reason there's crime in DC is because people don't care about the hood.

I shouldn't say this but there was a sealed indictment of the people I was with I was looking at a RICO at 15. I'm over 40 so this was way before nikkas was getting RICO's and I probably wouldve been the youngest nikka with a RICO

Before you go crazy as you know RICOs are about criminal enterprises even the indictment didn't claim I was a leader or nothing.

Why I aint in Victorville or somewhere? Because there was an internal war and the leaders of both factions were killed. so all the main people they wanted were dead so the case was dropped.

So How I did I know I was being investigated? a corrupt MPD officier on the task force gave the boss the paperwork assuming that he was going down anyway (which he probably would've)

Side note DC was mainly known for their killers (which I was not) again cops all over the place all time Federal But nikka like Silk and Pop killed Black Men so it didn't matter.

nikkas was famous when they were active cops did nothing until it was too late.

so, my take. I live by Nats Stadium and Audi Field

First of all, lets look at Trumps agenda for doing it. Was it chaos with kids running around everywhere just doing stupid shyt? yes... the kids were annoying. it was blasted on the news a lot. to me this triggered all this.

2. Homeless, I dont like how they just rolled up on the homeless and just start tossing their only belongings. Did they check to see if they were throwing away important documents like Social Security cards? Birth Certificates?? items that require an address for a duplicate to be mailed.. smh

3. now, its been no murders in 11 days. thats big tho.

4. it seems like the biggest losers are from these random checkpoints. These food delivery people (hispanics) on mopeds. They basically been running the delivery hustle. Feds been snatching them off them mopeds and locking them up. sad, but I dont care to come to bat for hispanics. Never seen them come to bat for black shyt. Its fuhked up, but it aint my fight. Trump told that community he was coming for them, but you still had 42% vote for him.

5. car break ins everywhere, cars sitting on crates with missing wheels, car jackings were the biggest problem. We will see if this calms down. Havent seen any in my area since all this. but its still a problem. This past weekend I just decided to hang in Va mostly. found some nice restaurant spots in Alexandria. I think you gonna see more people do the same. either go to PG county or whatever. or go to Va.
That's what everybody is doing including criminals hanging in Maryland or Virginia.

It’s actually just a black man that’s calling out the bs. Dc been a shyt hole if we’re speaking freely. No way OUR nations capital should be as dangerous as it is. From Marion Barion to “what is a chain of command” cmon brah. U should want more as an American.
Ok obviously not Black and definitely NOT from the urea. There was a reason why Mayor Barry kept getting relected.

You're nasically saying that Black people shouldn't govern themselves at all.

What’s been the hold up thus far? The crime rate still high right? City’s still black right?
Do we want to break the laws without consequence forever?
