A new Yahoo News/YouGov poll — one of the first conducted after former President Donald Trump was indicted Thursday for his role in paying hush money to a porn star — shows Trump surging to his largest-ever lead over Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, his likely 2024 GOP primary challenger, as Republican voters rally around the only president in U.S. history to face criminal charges.

In the previous Yahoo News/YouGov survey, which was conducted less than two weeks ago, Trump (47%) led DeSantis (39%) by eight percentage points in a head-to-head matchup among registered voters who are Republicans or Republican-leaning independents. As recently as February, it was DeSantis who was narrowly ahead of Trump, 45% to 41%.

But the new, post-indictment poll suddenly finds Trump lapping DeSantis by 26 percentage points — 57% to 31% — in a one-on-one contest. The former president even attracts majority support (52%, up from 44% previously) when pitted against a wider, 10-candidate field of declared and potential GOP challengers, while DeSantis plummets to 21% (down from 28%).

fukking crazy, this is the straight up mass suicide party.

Some other results from that poll:

* 45% of americans believe trump did falsify business records, 26% believe he did not.

* 42% of Americans approve of Trumps indictment, 39% disapprove, 19% unsure. Independents approve 43% to 37%.

* But only 30% believe he will be convicted, 31% believe he will not, and the rest are unsure.

On other potential indictments:

* 64% of registered voters believe that Trump tried to overturn the results of the 2020 election (being investigated in Georgia)

* 54% of registered voters believe Trump incited the attack on the Capitol (being investigated by feds)

* 71% of registered voters believe trump took highly classified documents to Mar-a-Lago (being investigated by feds)

Your favorite poster's favorite poster.

I wonder how much of that is due to people actually thinking he did nothing wrong and how much is due to not having any faith in the system?

This surprised me since it was pretty much shown outright by the media. I assumed his supporters would be on some "yes he did but he had the right to/was an honest mistake/he's an action hero from the future trying to save humanity".

There are still people who claim those documents were planted.

And a certain % of Trump supporters will just pick the pro-Trump answer in every poll regardless of what they actually believe.

It's expected.

After the first atomic bomb was dropped on the Japanese they became more fervent - they only cared for fighting at that point. That is when the U.S. dropped the 2nd warhead on them.

When people feel attacked, they are less willing to negotiate and less willing to consider alternatives. They hunker down in their positions and fight more aggressively.

I believe this is similar. Some people look to Trump as their ideological champion, and since he's being "attacked/targeted" (legitimately but that doesn't matter to them), they feel they are being attacked.

I don't think you can really compare Japan's shame-culture and resistance to Unconditionally Surrender to Trump's crybaby Stans :russ:

Bro polls are not that useful anymore
They manipulate that shyt

Still crazy though
It’s a circus show, from all sides

When was the last time that primary polls were inaccurate?

Polls showed Bernie ahead early in 2020, then flipped on him once the rest of the field formed together like Vultron.

Polls showed Trump ahead in 2016 from the beginning when all the pundits thought that shyt was crazy.

Polls showed Obama trailing Clinton in the early campaigning but steadily rising, and predicted most of his wins.

Polling isn't perfect, and it seems to underestimate Trump in certain swing states (either due to Trump supporters being extra dedicated on voting day or refusing to answer polls), but there's no truth to the narrative that polls don't mean anything.

After the first atomic bomb was dropped on the Japanese they became more fervent - they only cared for fighting at that point. That is when the U.S. dropped the 2nd warhead on them.

This was a made-up narrative narrative created to justify the bombings. (which goes for 90% of the shyt fed to the American public about that bombing) The two nukes were dropped way too close together to be able to gage Japanese opinion like that at all. There was literally just two days in-between. And the Japanese weren't fighting the Americans at all on that point, they were stuck isolated on their island with no air or sea forces left and pretty much were just getting bombed mercilessly by US air forces with nothing they could do about it.

The only major fighting going on at the time was the Russian invasion. The Russians completely overwhelmed Japanese forces in Manchuria, South Sakhalin, and the Kuril Islands. That invasion began the night before the 2nd US bomb was dropped and continued after the bomb. What was going on in Nagasaki had no meaningful impact on the campaign and the Japanese soldiers fought the same either way.

The real reason two bombs were dropped (as expressed by multiple US military leaders at the time) is because Truman and the scientists wanted to test both uranium and plutonium bombs. The bombings had been planned back in May and ALWAYS included two bombs being dropped. The actual military situation was irrelevant. In fact, they explicitly order the air forces to avoid bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki between May and August, because they wanted to have a relatively virgin testing ground to study the full impact of the bomb.

When people feel attacked, they are less willing to negotiate and less willing to consider alternatives. They hunker down in their positions and fight more aggressively.

This much is entirely true, and goes for pretty much any war in addition to political battles.
