I can see an argument being made that the de-escalation is being done too hastily, but ultimately this is the right move. Stop the nation building and oil theft; bring our troops home. In regards to Syria, apparently Mattis and nem wanted Trump stand firm during a call with the Turkish President and get the Turkish President to agree not to attack the Kurds (our allies) which would put American soldiers at risk. Instead, Trump got manipulated by the Turkish President who convinced him to pull out of Syria so that he can give the Kurds that work.
