The government admitted the accusations and lawsuits hampered the investigation. There are allegations that hundreds of state employees thought the Somalis were suspicious, but their concerns were downplayed due to concerns of offending the community.I agree that it should have been caught earlier. Nobody's arguing that. But claiming the entire state government was strong-armed by racism accusations? That's just a vibes-based narrative you tell yourself to avoid the more boring reality that bureaucratic oversight systems are slow and often under-resourced everywhere, in red and blue states alike.
And "vibes" and "narratives" decide elections. People don't give a fukk about minutia. They see an alien community stealing their money, they want that community held to account. It is what it is.
