He also said that black people are oppressed because we reject christianity
if he really said this, im not shocked

Kendrick comes off as a very hardcore christian and lowkey a extreme one at that.
I myself am a christian and believe in some things. Been around some extreme christians, kendrick reminds me of that
nothing c00nish or hamrful i would say. But the guy has to do more research. Kendrick and other black celebs fall into this, go off rambling while being misinformed
I didn’t say they were alike - I was just explaining the comparison. Realistically, I think Lupe has much more to say and is clearly more well read than Kendrick.
Lupe has his smart dumb nikka moments to tho.

But Lupe is more invested, and is more informed than Kendrick on issues.

kendrick seems like he focuses solely of his experiences and city to base what he knows. Nothing wrong with that. But you gotta sometimes expand your perspectives and read up on some things.

that’s exactly what I’ve been trying to explain in the TPAB thread. I do think his intentions are good.

1. the mike brown comment
2. The record label telling him not to speak on politics anymore
3. The last line on blacker the berry
4.I’m an Israelite, don’t call me black no more
5. And Deuteronomy say that we all been cursed.

I really don’t think people are listening because Deuteronomy and the curse of ham are talked about a lot on Damn.

growing up in the church and studying different religious groups I almost thought the same, but those talking points can be very dangerous. Slave owners used it to justify slavery. Saying we’re a cursed race justifies the systemic racism we face worldwide

I do think Kendrick has his heart in the right place and I like him he’s a good rapper but I just can’t rock with it like that

This X 100.

Kendrick did not understand when he was using Deuteronomy to explain the mistreatment of Black people. You can't talk about Deuteronomy without starting with Genesis. The Israelites were in bondage in Egypt first and it had nothing to do with a curse because the Egyptians were Ham's people. The Israelites ended up in Egypt because of a famine and the 11 tribes went into Egypt. Joseph revealed himself to be the brother they left for dead. The Israelites reside and multiply in Egypt. Out of fear and because a Pharaoh arose who didn't know of Joseph, placed the Israelites in bondage because he was afraid of their might. They remained in bondage for 400 years.

The Israelites didn't become curse until they broke the commandments and covenants handed down by God in the books of Exodus, Leviticus, Deutoronomy, and Numbers. As a result, they were put in captivity again and again and each time a remnant was delivered and their captors were destroyed.

tbf with Kendrick tho, he never touted himself as a super problack minded concious person. Nor goes out speaking on issues like that, like Pac, Ice Cube/T, Chuck D, Killer Mike, Lupe, etc do

that was the media because interscope and its machine used the "tpab is the super pro black album" angle to market it and writers in the media pushed that shyt.

But it also comes back Kendrick having partial responsibility of having this expectation put on him. Because instead of calling out and telling everyone that hes not that artist he eats it up and gloats about being a "concious rapper making platinum albums"

So this expectation that is put on him that he really doesnt meet, is hugly not his fault but part of it is at the same time.

All this because Kendrick doesn’t tweet?

a lot of rappers should stop tweeting thought it was common knowledge. Stop looking for these artists for guidance and use real leaders for that instead

He was trying to tell nikkas what was up and people called him corny because it didn't have any "turnup" songs for the gym or the club
He was called corny cause he is. The real nikkas never had that problem.
And it wasn't cause he didn't "turn up"

Men looking to rappers to be their strength.
Kendrick has benefitted greatly from being being viewed as the anti pop rapper, a pillar of consciousness, the evolution of 2pac, he's not living up to it, he's being called out. Rightfully so

Yep. That pissed me off. Not every song has to have a trap beat and autotune.

Maaan. I think the industry legit has a vendetta against Lupe and wanna make sure he doesn't get his flowers. I think i remember him saying Lyor laughed at him when he asked about obtaining his masters. They really didn't expect him to be grounded and forward thinking at such a young age

Watching the Joe Budden-Lupe discussion they had reccently I think Lupe was seriously deprived of a GOAT career all things considering how held back he was.

Hearing him say how he only had his boy in jail to reflect ideas off and was envious of Joe & Slaughterhouse having that equal level of talent around him. Records 10 songs and will feel like only 1 out of them is good enough.

Then considering, he never had a producer to build his own sound like a Dre-Snoop, YG-DJ Mustard, Cash Money-Mannie Fresh etc. All this and imo Lasers is his only blemish album wise and even that had charted singles if i remember right. People have even debated with me that it wasn't even that bad an album

People were scared of Lupe changing Hip Hop for the better from 03 to 06 when the southern dance craze was the forefront. A bunch of one-hit wonders ans Lil Wayne controlled the landscape, and Lupe blowing up would meant a lot of trouble. Lu's early mixtapes had Godly level of lyrics that wpuld have made Wayne's career flatlined, if they were promoted properly. A lyrical black MC in that era was a scarlet letter, cause everyone hyped up about the strip club or the southern traphouse.

They should’ve just let Lupe be him. He has one of the most mishandled careers of all time. Imagine Lupe on Def Jam with just Kanye and Just Blaze production.

Lupe would have crushed the buildings with Just Blaze in his corner, on a label like Def Jam. He would have sonned Banks something serious with his albums.

Kendrick was preaching respectability politics when Mike Brown died. There’s a reason TDE told interviewers to not ask him political questions.
Many of these "conscious" rappers are not really that smart or intellectual like we think.
