That's because life is a chain of events and everything relates to everything in some kind of way. Its best not to go back, because any simple change can make you not exist or remove the manifestation of getting your powers. You wanting to stop slavery, could fukk up you existing in the first place, or maybe you would exist, just in Africa or somewhere else and never get your powers in the first place. Same for any major event in history. But even altering regular interactions with people can change families dynamics and structures in the future. A single person interacts with thousands of people over a lifetime, where any of those interactions can change a person's thoughts, emotions, beliefs, and decisions. No imagine taking all those interactions away.
