My major issue with UBI is it's an economic booster attempt masquerading as a social service.

It's not a solution to poverty and you can provide subsidies that accomplish the same thing.

They want you to spend money to keep the economy going. But at some point, this will strain the system, so what next after that?
How would this strain the system

I just see people throwing money at stuff without fixing systemic issues.
I think you are going to have to do both.

For instance, what is the source of poverty for most citizens in our poorest nations? Address that while providing scaffolds until they are on their feet.
Is it high rent that’s keeping them poor? Lack of employment options? Do they have a lack of training?
For instance, lack of access to public transportation is a major issue but many republicans are against expanding public transportation services in cities b/c doing so hurts the interests of wealthy moguls in the highway and car businesses that fund their party. Has nothing to do with what benefits people.
Boy, the GOP's Platform Really Rails on Public Transit
Im sure there are hundreds more of these types of issues that need to be addressed in conjunction with providing financial assistance.

I just need everybody (poor included) to think about shyt differently.

like the homelessness crisis. Price of housing is creating homelessness. But many of the cities with the most outrageous prices are overcrowded anyway. Why aren’t people moving to less populated, cheaper spaces? Also there are tons of vacant houses and lots. Expanding government grants or giving developers government perks like tax breaks and grants to convert vacant and abandoned lots into affordable housing would pay for itself in the amount of money we spend on costs related to homelessness. And it could create jobs in the housing and construction sector. Save money by developing properties in cheaper less populated areas and rural parts. Culturally we are too obsessed with big cities anyway.

I agree with nearly every idea in this thread but it’s just a band-aid. We have to address the corruption in our system that is getting paid off the perpetuation of poverty in our country.

But first we need a better informed populace...too:patrice:

People don't own anything, including the shirt on their back and shoes on their feet. From birth, our very existence is contingent upon an ability to pay a select few who've hoarded all the capital and property, renting it out to us for a premium and using the military and paramilitary (police) to enforce their control of resources. Nothing is going to change until a critical mass of people realize and accept that a lot of them will have to die to put an end to this system. :francis:

:gucci: tens of millions of people cannot work right now.

Of course unemployment will be astronomical if you tell a good portion of your labor market to stay home

this is prolly a dumb question but...

if UBI becomes a thing, wouldnt landlords raise rent as well? Wouldn’t the price of other shyt go up too since everyone knows that everyone receives an extra 1200 a month
I know some that definitely will.. Have you paying 2,000 a month for a 700 square foot apartment with no amenities smh

1. Where is the money going to keep coming from?
2. If no value was created (product or service), then what is this money? and what's it effect on the overall economy?
:dwillhuh: You never said one think when Iraq War went on, Both bailouts in 2008, 2020, the massive 1.6 trillion dollar tax cut recently, the recent fed bailout.

Yall white people really some sheep. :gucci:

European society just discovered democratic societies in the last 200 years so I am not surprised yall have herd mentality when your ancestors were serfs to large landlords.

Iraq was tied to oil, Businesses create value, A tax cut is not money and you need a banking system.

Now my question to you is why don't you advocate for a system that helps you to create wealth, value and ownership?

Ya'll nikka so cheap and easily bought off. You get $500 and now you think you are safe and made it.

By the end of this month almost half if not more than half of people will be unemployed, broke and very scared not just for their livelihood but for their very lives. Giving people some paltry $1200 for just one month which btw they won’t be seeing for weeks isn’t going to do shyt to calm them.

Introduce UBI asap or else what happens if people snap will be way worse than whatever this virus brought.
150 million plus people? Foh

We aren't even in Bush/Obama era unemployment yet
