If they drop projects from Rihanna, Kanye, Jeezy, Frank and Jhene Aiko on top of the Ross and YG albums they could do alright. Kanye's new album is supposed to be a lot more mainstream than Yeezus so that should help.

Everyones knows major labels are imploding and with the lackluster year DJ had in 2013 this really shouldn't be a surprise.
Aiko ain't gonna do anything.

ehhhhhhhhhhh nah.

Irv added more to the culture than anything though. Dude was doing numbers, which is what matters.
No its not, making a profit is what matters. You can make a profit without selling out the music, at least in a major way. A lot of artist put out cheap shyt, and hype it up to sell. You can tell it was cheap shyt because no one is even mentioning most of his shyt now. Its not like he didn't have the talent, be just was greedy.

There's a great misunderstanding of what happened here, mostly implied by the thread title

but nothing was shut down . . the entities were restructured. Basically a controlled split, all done and managed under the "UMG umbrella" (aka 'the higher ups'). Now all of these companies will operate within the parameters of their set guidelines

Dame couldn't even run his own label right again when he got the chance.

The best rap minds in NY either don't have the wherewithal to keep building, the financial backing to progress or run shyt on a smaller scale like A$AP Yams
