If you got a bunch of regular sized people in the sport, its probably not top tier, People either size up (NBA, NFL) or size down (Gymnastics, Jockies) for the a competitive advantage once the competition gets to a certain level. A 5'10" 180lb cac is never going to be the peak build for a sport. Unless its separated by weight classes
There’s plenty of forwards, centers, and goalies that are 6’2 plus. Pro soccer players are incredible athletes that can often excel at other sports if they learn to play it too (NBA, rugby, American football). I think the US soccer leagues are relatively short though.
Soccer players are basically high speed basketball with their feet, with a few American football rules, while having to make more multi-position decisions more constantly than basketball or football. They’re have to be fast as fukk, jump high as hell, but stop on a dime, while being extremely coordinated, while judging the distances of everything around them, without the breaks that come with football.
Imagine a bunch of Allen iversons, Steve mashes, Giannises, and Mike Jordan, playing marathon hurt-the-man with minimal stoppages. Not to mention the contact all the elbows to the ribs and head, the full speed knees and kicks to the lower legs and thighs.
I ran varsity HS track, baseball and football before HS, and started as a varsity soccer and basketball player at another HS. I preferred hooping and Football, but playing as a left or right back in soccer was fun because I was the fastest on the team but could defend as dirty as Lu Dort.
It was definitely the most difficult because there’s so much to think about, while struggling to breathe from the constant sprinting and having to basically be an iron man for the majority of the match.
I used to hate on that shyt before I played it. Elite is elite no matter the sport. Soccer just doesn’t require all the bulky muscle that football and rugby does.
