I kinda understand what joe is trying to say but not completely... He's saying drake is allowing people behind the scenes to use him to help water down the Hip Hop culture instead of raising the bar. Or am i wrong? I dont get his point about the napster/streaming thing...

Listening to this now.....His delivery is killing me, I keep laughing when he goes on these impassioned angry rants, and then goes back to a controlled speaking voice.....

I love his passion, I feel like Budden, though I am like 8 years younger, I have the same love for the game....I feel what he's saying. I don't know fukk with Drake like that, I think Budden is a little misguided in how he sees Drake....

Also, I think Joe is very blinded by his admiration of Drake, in that, there is no 'Real Mc' Drake, it's all a facade.....I don't think he wrote the bulk of lines in tracks like '5AM In Toronto' where everyone feels he is his true MC self....it's bullshyt. Budden is praising an emperor or a gatekeeper with no clothes.

It's because he knows/has kicked it with Drake early in his career and knows he was an influence. Not to mention he got put in the same camel clutch that Drake is about to get put in so he feels for him.

I know, which is he would get bodied. Drake is not capable of making a good diss song like NAS is. Drake is one of my favorite artist but he's not really skilled as an MC.

Drake is skilled as an emcee he just doesn't have a good angle of attack for a guy like Jay-Z. It's like when Jay went at Prodigy, Jay made P look fake, and P is nice but he didn't have a good angle to come back at Jay.

Will we ever get a Nas vs Jay-Z rap beef again?

I doubt it
Drake runs rap
All the heavy weights are his friends
Jay-Z won't and can't do it
Drake can just get the tent writers to make another back to back and it will be played in the club all week

I don't like Drake as a person but I admire his ingenuity
Nothing has ever been done like this before
And it couldn't have been accomplished without American nikkas being so eager to dikkride

I think there are too many politics in the game now for that. Drake can't get over on Hov like he did Meek, so all that tent writers stuff isn't going to work for him again. He had 81 writers for a meh album, that's a chink in his armor no matter how beloved Drake appears to be. And this is hip-hop, the fans WILL turn on you at some point. I think ultimately Drake generates too much money for too many people in the industry for them to just let Jay bury him. There would be a lot of powerful people behind the scenes pleading with Hov's camp not to push the button.

I see Buddens point even though he's a bit all over the place.

I disagree while Take Care might be his best album he was spitting all the way up to If You're Reading This. That's when he began to dumb down and embrace trap more. In the Nothing Was The Same era we were still getting Tuscan Leathers, Pound Cakes, and 5 AM in Torontos. We're only getting that Drake in spurts now (6PM in NY, 30 for 30, Weston Road Flows).

Minus the incessant screaming, I get what Budden is saying. Because as a fan of both, I see it as Budden is watching himself playing chess with Hov. Let's say you entertain the Hov conspiracy. Considering Budden and Drake's similarities (at his heart of hearts, Drake is a product of Phonte/Ye versatility, Joe Budden introspection/moods, Jay-Z/Pusha charisma now...
This is Drake to a tee... :ehh:
I never understood why Drake had so many haters. Drake and the generation he came up with (Drake, Cudi, Wale, Cole, and later Kendrick obviously) damn near saved hip hop and refocused the genre from where the south took it in the mid 2000s. They brought a reemphasis on lyricism.
Facts. These guys as a whole get too much hate from nikkas saying Cole is boring, to Wale being straight up :trash: and nikkas calling Kendrick a fake revolutionary.

These dudes really kept the game afloat forreal and brought great energy to the game. This next class of MC's I see aren't even close artistically.
in a time where J cole, Kendrick and even Big Sean are putting out their best albums people expected the same for drake, when you have folks saying if you don't drop a classic it's a flop no matter how good it is the reception will be affected
Are they really though? I don't think Pimp is better than good kid, m.a.a.d. city. Sean and Cole may have put out their best retail albums but I don't think either is much better than Views at all which is billed as Drake's worst effort and a 7 out 10 album. Sean hasn't topped Detroit, and Cole hasn't topped The Warm Up for me.

I think the expectations for this Views album were unrealistic.

Hov doesn't matter. Young ppl look at him as sick and flabby.

It would have to be someone from the new gen. I don't think Kendrick will do it, unless Drake takes it there.

There's tension between Drake and Tory Lanez, but Drake is lil homie'n him.

I think Drake won.

And ppl need to quit asking why Drake has haters. Dude is a fraud more than other rappers. Whether you like him or not, it's true
