What would you guys do in his situation?

It's tough to say what I would do if I were in his situation (i.e looking for work, etc). However, if it was me that it happened to I would take that shyt to trial.
That's why it's important for black people to support our own and participate in the criminal justice system. We need to build our community to protect ourselves from situations like this.

that is what happens to people who aren't rich or white. if dude had some dough he could get a good lawyer who would have this thrown out or pay a fine or at worse plead to disturbing the peace. since he doesn't seem to have money he might as well take the deal at this point. the risk with taking this to trial is he'll probably have a public defender. as part of the system public defenders aren't interested in proving your innocence, they just want to get the best deal for the system. public defenders aren't where they are to help out the racially profiled and unjustly harassed.

shyt reminds me of this book Slavery By Another Name that highlights the justice system after Reconstruction. Black dudes could be arrested for anything under the sun, thrown in jail, and forced to work on chain gangs.

Can't even drink a soda in a parking lot. If the criminal justice system, from the officer to the DA, ASSUMES you're trouble, and HAS A VESTED INTEREST in seeing you locked up, you're a walking target. No chain gang for Beatty but they want to turn this guy into a criminal for sticking up for himself. Once they have that conviction or plea, there's no getting out from under it. Scarlet letter. Already affecting his ability to work.

Don't even know what I'd do in that situation. No good outcome. I'm a year older than him and these days if I'm approached like that I just leave. Frustrating as all hell but these guys are looking for the chance to make your life as difficult as possible and have no problem finding an excuse.

Sometimes you gotta pick your battles. Its not always about being right.. this is about survival and a lot of folks get caught up on trying to be right as if the courts ever give blacks a fair trial. The deal is messed up but the end result is a dismissed charge so he should take it since he doesnt have the money for a proper defense.
